Tributes

Mary Jane Laurel, born June 10, 1935 in San Antonio, bravely battled Scleroderma for 23 years before yielding to be in the house of our heavenly father on February 13, 2006. Mrs. Laurel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Besides her home life and household affairs, she had a brilliant Federal Civil Service career sometimes interrupted to raise four children. During her childrens schooling, elementary to high school, she was very much involved in PTA functions in all of their schools. She volunteered as a mentor and teachers aide, and other school activities. All four of her children were involved in extra school curriculum. She started her civil service in 1959 at Randolph A.F.B. then BAMC retiring T Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland A.F.B. January 1994. She received numerous commendations and citations from the Air Force. She was preceded in death by her parents Carrie and Leo Sanders, her sisters Irene Sanders, Aurora Sanders, Bridie Sanders, Beatrice Gonzales, Elvira Salinas, and brother Leo Sanders Jr. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, George H. Laurel, Sr.; daughters, Margaret Long and husband Ronald of Dallas, Patricia Laurel; sons, George H. Laurel, Jr. and Ralph L. Laurel; her sisters, Teresita Gonzales and Husband Virgil; Carole Jimenez and husband Rosalio; Ms. Doris Lopez; are of San Antonio; brothers, Edward Sanders, Los Angeles, CA, Richard Sanders, Princeton, TX; one grandson, C. Austin Lobitz. In addition she is survived by her extended family nieces Rosalie Reyes of San Antonio, Mary Alice Beeson and Alma Salinas of Azusa, CA, Olga Valle of Southgate, CA, Bebe Garcia Mesquite TX, Sister M. Rosaline Gonzales of Our Lady of the Pine, Chatawa, MS, Mary Carmen Gray Reno NV; nephews, John Edward Gonzales, Diamond Springs, CA and Danny Tellez Hopewell, VA.; and other numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Laurels parents were among the original members of St. Agnes Catholic Church parishioners. As a result Mrs. Laurel has been a contributing factor in this parish since infancy, started her schooling there graduating from St, Gerard High School in 1952. She served as president of the Altar Society and after her tenure she continued to be involved in planning improvements to the church ands its infrastructure. She was very devoted to St. Agnes affairs until her illness forced her to stop. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name are made to St. Agnes Church, 814 Ruiz, San Antonio, TX 78207-1628 or a charity of your choice. SERVICES There will be a public visitation on Friday, February 17, 2006 from 9 11:30 a.m., with a rosary recited at 11:30 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 12 p.m., all will be held in the St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
