Mary Lee McDonald Martinez went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2016. She was born on February 15, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas to Amos McDonald and Mary Cumpian. She is survived by her daughters, Rose Marie Martinez, Mary Angela Villanueva Manuel Bazan III, Mary Kathleen Ayala Robert, Teresa Ann Singleton William, Rebecca Louise Avey William; sons, John Anthony Martinez Gloria, Michael Anthony Martinez Gilda; grandchildren, George Villanueva II Jennifer, Robert Anthony Ayala Tammy, Shelby Marie Ayala, Eleanor Lee Castillo, Gavin Aaron Avey; great-grandchildren, Vincent Villanueva, Devin Villanueva, Cheyenne Deckerd & Darren Ayala Mary was a graduate of Lanier High School. On April 5th, 1953, she married Colorado native "Handsome" Jose Antonio Martinez. Together they raised 7 children. She was a strong and independent woman. In December 1984, she opened Mary's Pawn Shop on Brady Blvd. This was the very site of her birth, for her father, Amos, had built their home and grocery store on this site. It was her dream to own her own business and to help the people of the neighborhood she grew up in with her shop, just as her mother, Mary did with her grocery store. Our mother was gentle, but uncompromising. A stern look was all she needed to keep us in line. She taught us the value of integrity and truth. She often said, "You have my complete trust, until you give me reason not to". Her door was always open, our refuge in a storm. Our friends would call her "mom". It's not enough to say that she was the best mother in the world, she was a friend and she is missed! SERVICES Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 6:00pm-9:00pm, with a Rosary recited at 7:00pm at Brookehill Funeral Home. A procession will depart the funeral home on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 9:30am, with the Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 10:00am at St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
