Mary L. Moran passed away peacefully on April 13, 2012 at the age of 73. She was born on July 19, 1938 in San Antonio, TX to Alejandro Vargas and Carolina Ramirez Vargas. She worked at Kelly Air Force Base as an aircraft engine mechanic from 1968 to 2001. She was featured in the Kelly Observer, published August 8, 1974, and described her work as a challenge going from one B-52 to another to assist in performing vital repair work to meet production schedules. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who spent her entire life caring for her family. Weya, as she was often called by loved ones, was a happy soul who loved to be active and busy. Any chance she could, she would head out to her favorite casinos or play her favorite lottery games. She was a happy and lucky bingo player. She was an excellent cook who made the best menudo in town. She was also known for making the spiciest habanero hot sauce that would make anybody cry, just ask the Honorable Judge Al Alonso. She was preceded in death by her father, daughter, Alice Rodriguez, husbands, Leobardo Rodriguez Sr. and Rudy Moran. She is survived by her mother, sister, Estella V. Chapa, daughters and sons-in-law, Lillian and Dr. Pablo Guajardo, Mary L. and Frank Garza, JoAnn and Gilberto Castellanos, sons and daughters-in-law, Alex and Oralia Rodriguez, Leo and Margie Rodriguez, Edward and Rose Rodriguez and daughter-in-law and husband, Yolanda Rodriguez-Gutierrez and Fred Gutierrez. Nieces Kami Chapa-Presti and Pearl VanWinkle. Nephews Gilbert Martinez Jr. and Carlos Martinez. 26 Grandchildren Stella L. Mermeia, Johnny R. Mermeia Jr., Cynthia M. Barrera and husband Rafael, James Garza, Joseph Garza, Jessica Gonzalez and husband Robert, Monica Regalado, Ricky Regalado, Anthony Regalado, Kimberly and Selena Rodriguez , Michael A. Rodriguez and wife, Meggan, Mark D. Castellanos, Samantha J. Castellanos, Andrew J. Castellanos, Benjamin J. Castellanos, Francesa I. Castellanos, Solana D. Castellanos, Christopher P. Rodriguez, Nicolas and Christopher Linden, Adam Ray Jr. and Aiden Ethan Rodriguez, Aaron Ray Gutierrez, Jenna Rose and Adam Ray Rodriguez and Baby Barrera on the way. A special thank you goes out to all of the medical care staff at Southwest General Hospital and Mission Trail Baptist Hospital. We would like to acknowledge Dr. Pablo Guajardo, Dr. Luis Bieler, Dr. Hector Gomez, Dr. Alexei Arkhipov, Dr. Bal Reddy, Dr. Roberto Trevino and Dr. V. Srinivasan for their professionalism, diligent care and compassion. SERVICES Visitation will begin on Monday, April 16, from 5:00 P.M. ~ 9:00 P.M. at Mission Park South Funeral Chapels South. A Prayer Service and Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 17 at 10:00 A.M. at San Fernando Cathedral. Interment will follow at San Fernando II. Pallbearers are James Garza, Joseph Garza, Michael Rodriguez, Johnny R. Mermeia Jr., Adam R. Rodriguez Sr., Edward R. Rodriguez Jr. and Rafael Barrera.
