Mary Lou Rivera went to be with the Lord on Thursday June 1, 2023 at the age of 83 years after a short Cancer battle with her family by her bed side. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Rivera, parents: John Lopez and Luz Gil Lopez, sisters: Connie L. Martinez and Lucy Lopez. She was born in The Township of Buel, Croswell Michigan on October 23, 1939. When her parents returned to their home town of San Antonio, she grew up and attended Edgewood High School until she lost her father at age 17 and had to help with her siblings. She met her late husband Richard at a park dance and fell in love. She told a sweet story of how they met and were high school sweethearts and when he joined the US Navy, she waited for him and when he returned they were married on Dec 23rd 1959. They both loved dancing and were great together. He was her Prince Charming and love of her life. She was proud of her 59 years of marriage and was happy being a homemaker and mother. Although she struggled with her eyesight in her early 40’s due to a disease, she always kept busy doing things around the house. She is remembered as a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her presence will be sorely missed by all. She is survived by her three children: Mary Ellen Munoz, Richard Rivera Jr. (Veronica) and Linda Ann Gallegos (Michael) of San Antonio. She is also survived by sister: Antonia L. Garza and brother: Alfred G. Lopez. 9 grandchildren: Juan (Joey) Munoz Jr, Christopher Munoz, Jessica Fernandez, Richie Rivera III, Richelly Rivera, Melanie Vasquez, Melissa Johnson, Michael and Mickey Gallegos: 15 Great-grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. A very special thank you to Cherish and Joey Munoz for being there for their grandma in her last few months, you are a blessing. We also appreciate her sister-in-law’s Sara, Becky and Carmen for your help and patience in caring for mom in these last 4 plus years as well as other family members and friends. Thank you to the Hospice Nurses of Compassus for your care and compassion. Funeral will be on Tuesday, June 13,2023. Visitation 3:00pm to 8:00pm, with a prayer service at 6:30pm at Alamo Funeral Chapels 624 N. Alamo St., San Antonio, TX 78215 Burial will be on Wednesday June 14, 2023. A procession will depart Alamo Funeral home at 10:00am to Fort Sam National Cemetery Shelter no. 3 for a 10:30am service.
