Matthew Paul Martinez, 52, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away April 1, 2026. Matthew was born February 23, 1974, in San Antonio, Texas. Matthew's memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Brook Martinez (Borland), and his beloved children Veronica, Antonio, Gracelynn, Cristian, Evelynn, and Juddah, who were his greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his mother Mary E. Carrillo (Cortez) and stepfather Marcario Carrillo, his siblings Linda Carrillo ( Dahles Dennis) and Christopher Carrillo, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were like family to him. Matthew worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, a career that reflected his natural calling to care for others. He earned his Vocational Nursing degree and dedicated his life not only to his patients, but to anyone who needed support, encouragement, or kindness. Matthew loved roller skating, playing video games, listening and singing to music, and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed being in nature, trying to grow plants, composting, and listening to and debating conspiracy theory. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboy fan. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his wife. Matthew was truly a light in every room he entered. His presence made people feel seen, welcomed, and valued. He had a contagious laugh, a humble spirit, and a kind heart. He had a special gift for making people smile and making sure no one ever felt alone. His personal mission in life was to be a safe space for others. If you entered his home, you were family, no questions asked. He believed in helping others through their struggles and was never afraid to get "into the dirt" with someone to help them through a hard time. To those who knew him, Matthew will always be remembered for his goodness, his laughter, and the way he poured love into everyone around him. He was a protector of his family and worked hard to make sure no one he loved ever went without. Matthew faced his battle with cancer with remarkable strength, grace, and unwavering faith. He never took his eyes off Christ and trusted fully in God's plan. Throughout his illness, he remained strong in his belief that no matter the outcome, he would win. Whether that meant more time with his family or being welcomed into heaven with Jesus, he would win. His faith was an inspiration to everyone who witnessed his journey. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 9, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a service at 6:30 P.M. at 1700 SE Military Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78214. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10, at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow. Matthew's legacy of love, kindness, faith, and service to others will live on through everyone blessed enough to know him.
