Our angel, Melody Renee Tolar, passed away on November 17th, 2016, surrounded by a parade of family and friends at the Tolar home in Mico, Texas. Born March 29th, 1976, at Hahn Air Base, Germany, to an Air Force family, she became a world traveler at an early age and grew up in Germany, Italy, Mississippi, and Texas. With wide eyes, a big smile and a giant heart, Melody was passionate in everything she did, and she attacked each new project or friendship with a strong will and high energy, but also with a sensitivity and compassion that made her loved by all. Her creative spirit was manifested in her love for Japanese Culture, the graphic arts, and virtually every genre of music. She was an avid Cosplay (Costume Play) fan and regularly portrayed the characters of Harley Quinn or Hatsune Miku and later developed her own hybrid character, Miku Quinn. This vocation soon blossomed into a talent to reach out to others in need. When diagnosed with cancer, Melody fought with the same passion and energy that permeated everything she did. Though in pain, and enduring countless chemotherapy, drug and radiation treatments, she routinely visited local children’s hospitals in the San Antonio area with the Heroes N More nonprofit organization, dressed as Princess Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen.” She also joined the Pink Warrior Angels and Breast Friends Forever support groups, where she participated in various San Antonio events, such as Hope on the Runway, an annual fashion show, and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, both designed to raise breast cancer awareness in the community. Melody was a champion of the weak, a friend to all, a wonderful daughter to her parents, a special sister to her brother Josh, a devoted partner to John, and she loved her nephew Aiden like a son. She is survived by her parents, Steven Bryant Tolar and Charlotte DeSpain Tolar; her brother, Joshua Steven Tolar and wife, Naruthai Thepmanee Tolar; nephew, Aiden Rawin Tolar; the love of her life, John Oliver Aguinaga; and countless family and friends, all of whom showed great love and support to the very end. With Melody’s passing, we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss her every day, especially in her dedication to helping those in need, she will forever remain in our hearts as a gift from God. The memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3rd at 11 am, Mission Park Stone Oak, 23755 US Hwy 281 North, San Antonio, Texas 78258. All are welcome to help us celebrate the life and journey of our precious angel. The family will receive guests immediately following the service.
