Michael D Donovan, born February 9th, 1948, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday December 2nd 2020. Michael passed away peacefully at his home in San Antonio Tx. He was surrounded by his wife and loved ones. Michael was born in San Antonio to Gilbert Donovan and Beverly Joyce Embrey Donovan. He was raised in San Antonio with a large extended family that consisted of friends, cousins, and loved ones. Growing up, Michael loved playing football and he loved all things outdoors. He enlisted in the Marine Corp at 19 years of age. He served his country in the Vietnam War as a Lance Corporal E-5 with Hotel company, Second Battalion, First Marines of the First Marine Division stationed in Quang Tri Province where he received a purple heart as well as the Navy Achievement medal for outstanding achievement and the superior performance of his duties. After he returned from service, he enrolled at St. Mary’s University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration. Michael was loved by many; from the boys he coached in flag football to the men and women who worked for him at Bill Embrey Roofing Co and his many lifelong hunting, fishing, and gaming friends. Michael met and married his wife, June Gillaspia Donovan, in June of 1973. They were married on November 16th of 1973, and they have had over 47 years of ups and downs together. They ultimately loved and supported each other until God called Michael home. Michael is survived by his loving wife, June Donovan, and their daughter, Erin Donovan Bendele; her husband, Kevin Bendele, and their four children. He is also survived by his daughter; Shawn Colleen McRae, her husband Eric, and their three children. Michael valued serving others in his life and he led by example every day. He is loved by many and left a mark on the world through his acts of service and care. He was quick to give you anything he had if you needed it, and he was selfless in all that he did. I would be remiss if I didn’t’ mention that Michael was one of the toughest men I have ever known. He never quit. He was brave, strong, and an amazing father that shared his love of life and his tenacity with his loved ones. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Donovan and Beverly Joyce Donovan, his brother, Brian Donovan, and so many loved cousins, aunts, uncles, and cherished friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful if donations were made to The Wounded Warrior Project. Michael will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston on December 21st in a private ceremony.
