Born Feb.10, 1951 in Evansville, Indiana, SMSgt. Michael David Summers (USAF-Ret.), was a long-time resident of San Antonio, Texas. Mike entered the gates of heaven peacefully on April 24, 2017 after succumbing to a long battle of cancer at his homestead in Wilson County. His forever loving, caring wife (Doris Elaine Flores-Summers) was always at his side. Mike lived a wonderful life as a devoted father, husband, and retired military member. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Philip Pickering Summers and Helen Gwendolyn Blue-Summers; daughter, Michelle Elaine Summers-Trevino, and brother, Donald R. Summers. Mike honorably retired from the USAF (1969-1989). On July 15, 1970 Mike married Lana Flores-Summers of San Antonio, Texas. Mike is a graduate of Mohawk Valley College (Rome, New York); the Sperry-Rand (UNIVAC) Computer Engineering program in Minneapolis, MN and the Senior NCO Academy at Montgomery, Alabama. After retiring from the USAF in 1989, Mike worked in the automobile industry and the U.S. Post Office. He spent over twenty-five years as a genealogist researching and recording the records of the Summers and Flores family. Mike is survived by his loving wife and soul-mate of over 46 years, Lana Summers; sons, Michael P. Summers and wife Nikki De Leon, and Paul D. Summers and wife Kajal Gokul-Summers. He is also survived by brother Ronald W. Summers of Indianapolis, Indiana; 3 sisters, Cheryl Peerman of Evansville, Indiana; Rae Schmitt of Missouri; and Donna Kay Smith of Indiana; grandchildren, Brooke Summers, Clarissa Summers, Adelida Summers-Trevino and Michael Asher Summers; sister-in-laws, Joanie and Stephen Peterson of Stephenville, TX, Daca and Gary Miller of Seguin, TX, Lena Flores (D. 2013), along with numerous nieces and nephews, and many loved ones. Mike always felt he was graciously touched by his many friends, and family members. He widely loved and respected people from every walk of life, and enjoyed his life to its fullest. Mike is now at peace in Heaven with his loving parents and beautiful daughter. His final words were “I love you, and I will see you on the other side.” Visitation will be Monday, May 1, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at Mission Park South. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
