Monica Esquivel Castro went to be with the Lord on January 9th, 2024. She was born June 8th, 1948, to Marcelino and Eulalia Esquivel with no shortage of love, growing up in a home of 14 brothers and sisters. She went to Sidney Lanier High School where she met her loving husband Juan Castro, and they began their life together. They would be married for 56 years and affectionately become known as Mamo and Papo. Their legacy includes their daughters Yvonne (Chad) and Rose (Jacob), their son John, their grandchildren Aaron (Valerie), David, Matthew Orin, Matthew Alex, Tommy, Elida, Seth, Abby, Jack, and their great grandchildren Xander and Liam. Monica was known to light up any room with her joy and laughter, she could solve any problem with her sharp wit and colorful creativity, and she could ease any sorrow with her loving and caring spirit. She could often be found dancing, singing, and listening to music. She was wiser than her age as a young mother, instilling her strong faith in her children, teaching them skills and traditions that continue to be passed down for generations. There was a time when her husband’s career called them to move to distant cities such as St. Louis, MO and Louisville, KY. Forever having a thoughtful mind on her family, she became ecstatic when she heard the news that they would be moving to Weatherford, TX, bringing her closer to home. She enjoyed spending her time creating things that would bring happiness to people, whether it was cooking and baking for family gatherings or crafting and sewing gifts and garments for her loved ones. Monica had an ability to make everything fun, and she loved to share this with her family on their adventures from the coastline to the Frio River, camping and hiking, traveling to the beautiful mountain tops of Colorado, or the simple joys found in the city. Her illness took away her ability to do many of the things she loved but could not stop her from being needed. She found a way to continue to share her faith, her knowledge and her love. Her spirit never wavered, even managing to smile in her final days. Her natural gift of bringing joy and happiness into people’s lives is her living legacy. The celebration of her life will be the enduring love for her and the cherished memories of those whose lives she touched. She will forever be loved and missed.
