Nancy Herrera Doyle, age 88, of San Antonio passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease this past Wednesday, August 28, 2024 in Austin, Texas. Nancy was born on October 28, 1935 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She attended and graduated from Central High School in San Juan. She continued her education at the University of Puerto Rico, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Nancy then spent time in the United States where she attended Iowa State University to study for her Master’s Degree. Nancy took great pride in providing an ideal classroom environment for her students with whom she shared her passion for learning. Over the years, she taught in Illinois, Puerto Rico, Panama, Florida, and finally in Somerset as well as San Antonio, Texas. She was an elementary ESL teacher for thousands of students over time and was even awarded Teacher of the Year. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Doyle, daughter, Catherine Cecilia Starck and brother-in-law Simon Figueroa. Richard and Nancy met while he was stationed in Puerto Rico with the Army. Richard’s Army career led Nancy and their family to reside in many beautiful spots around the world. Nancy is survived by her sister, Daisy Figueroa (Simon), children Donald Starck (Liudmila) and Kimberly Price (Martin). She is also survived by her grandchildren Lindsey (Aaron), Jennifer (Tim), Marley, Blake, Sophia, and Victor as well as her great-grandchildren Kennedy and Madison, along with many nieces and nephews. Nancy was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening and would not allow any stray cat to go hungry. In her retirement years, she traveled to visit with family and succeeded for as long as possible to be independent. Her kind and generous soul will be missed by many. Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M. followed by the Rosary at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. The Service will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Chambers Chapel located at the rear of the Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH 10 West. Interment will follow at the Cemetery. Please take the left drive to the rear of the Cemetery and follow the arrows to the “Office”. Drive up the hill and circle around to the right to access the chapel.
