Nancy Lois Shockey, 75, passed away on the 26th of April in Arlington, TX. She was born the 15th day of July 1950 in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of John Dwight Shockey and Velma Spears Shockey. She spent her childhood in Texas City, TX and graduated from Texas City High School in 1968 where she was drum major for the TCHS Band. Throughout her professional life, Nancy’s accounting acumen afforded opportunities that culminated in her becoming Co-founder and CEO of La Esperanza Oil & Gas with her longtime friend and business associate, Roger M. Burkholder. She took great pride in Co-founding La Esperanza Christian Foundation. It was her passion to give back and fund charities closest to her heart such as spreading the gospel to the world, St. Jude’s and contributing to cancer research as a cancer survivor. She is survived by the love of her life, Jerry Don Smith, Arlington, TX; her son, James Douglas Buller, Jr., his wife Robin, and grandson, (Trace) James Douglas Buller III of Kingsport, TN; her sister, Jolynn Shockey Kienzle and her husband, Jim, of Houston, TX, their four children and nine grandchildren; her deceased brother, John Dane Shockey’s wife, Karen Shockey, of Lago Vista, TX, her daughter and grandson, and his two daughters and three grandchildren. Nancy was born with an entrepreneurial spirit and even as a child, sold candy, Christmas cards, and wrapping paper door to door. She charmed people and could sell ice to an Eskimo. When she entered a room, it was usually fashionably late, in the latest fashion and with a smile that would light it up. Her grand entrances let everyone know it was time to start the occasion, whatever it was. She loved music, especially Christian music and listening to Jerry sing to her. Her strong faith helped her fight the many health challenges she has endured in the last 26 years. Her love for Jesus was obvious to those who knew her and she now enjoys choirs of angels and lights heaven even more with her smile. The service will be held in the chapel at Mission Burial Park South. Visitation is Tuesday May 5, 2026, 11:00 to 12:00 pm. Graveside service is at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider a donation to St. Jude in her memory.
