Nicholas Ryan Saenz passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. He was 17 years old, less than a month from his 18th birthday, and in his senior year of high school. Nick was born on May 9th, 2003. He was a treasure to his mother and family from the moment he was born. He spent a great deal of time bonding with his grandparents as a child, which became a steadfast relationship throughout his life. His mother cherished Nick and did everything she could to make sure he lived his best life. He was always the sparkle in her eyes and the reason for her smile. As a child, Nick loved all the things that little boys love – trains and Legos and music. It’s no surprise that as a young man, he continued to love the things a young man loves – hunting, fishing, cooking, and woodworking. He continued his love of music, becoming an Apache percussionist at Antonian College Preparatory High School’s band. He was very passionate with his role in the Marching Band and continued to love Legos – as any young man should! He loved Star Trek and Doctor Who, and enjoyed snuggling up with his best friends, his favorite cat and dog, Blue and Frankie respectively, to play video games or watch a movie. Going to the beach was one of his favorite places as well. It didn’t take anyone long to get to know Nick. He was kind-hearted and a true friend. The light of God shone through Nick throughout his life, and anyone who knew him could see that light. He was a man of integrity and honor. Nick grew close to his doctors and other medical professional “family” who helped him over the last couple of years and appreciated the love and support they gave. Nick had a special bond with his mentor, Harry Hernandez, Jr., who helped him become the young man of whom we were all so proud. They would do things that Nick truly loved learning and doing. Nick is survived by his mother Martha, his grandmother Elva, Aunts Elva, Ana, and Rachel, Uncles Hector, Joey Saenz, and Dr. Harry Hernandez, and cousins Aaron, Adrian, Alyssa, Gabriella, Autumn Skye, and Ezekiel and his loving girlfriend, Marisa Pringle. He is also survived by numerous family members in Allende and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Oaks, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded on the premise that active participation in the outdoors is a powerful, healing, and fundamentally life-changing experience. On an annual basis, Trinity Oaks is able to offer more than 100 events for people who can benefit from once-in-a-lifetime hunting or fishing experiences. Their outdoor programs support Purple Heart and combat veterans, families suffering through the terminal illness of one of their members, special needs children, and underprivileged youth who lack proper mentorship.
