NORMA JEAN CUSHING JACKSON July 19, 1932 – June 20, 2024 Norma Jean Cushing Jackson was born July 19, 1932, to James Cushing, Jr. and Carrie Ethel Unfred Cushing in Washington County, Kansas, Kimeo Township. She passed on from this life to eternal glory on June 20, 2024. Norma was born in the homestead farmhouse that her grandfather, James Cushing, Sr., built and the same house her father was born in. She was the tenth child of her parents who had thirteen children. Norma received The Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized in 1943. She attended Chapman Rural School from 1939-1943. From 1944 to 1951 she attended public schools in Greenleaf, KS, Washington County. She graduated from high school in 1951. From 1951 to 1955 she was employed by the Washington County Welfare Office in Washington, KS. From 1955 to 1957 she attended Manhattan Bible College in Manhattan, KS. She worked at a laundry and cleaning business one summer in Manhattan, KS. She worked at the Horton Garment Factory in Atchison, KS 1957-1958. Norma worked for the Department of Human Services of the State of Texas in San Antonio, Texas from 1979 to 1995 a total of sixteen years. On June 1, 1958, Norma married Pastor James Warren Jackson at the Christian Church, Greenleaf, Kansas. They lived in the following locations: Farmington (pastored at Cummings, KS also), KS; Mankato, KS; Fowler, KS; and San Antonio, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Warren Jackson; father, James Cushing, Jr., and mother, Carrie Ethel Cushing and by eleven siblings: Elma L. Cairns (Glen), Greenleaf, Kansas; Wayne A. Cushing (Elizabeth), Daytona Beach, Florida; Donald E. Cushing (Ilene), Marysville, KS; Omar LeRoy Cushing, Hardtner, KS; Everett D. Cushing, Greenleaf, KS; Beulah M. Cushing, Greenleaf, KS; Eula M. Cushing (Bill), Kopperl, TX; Robert J. Cushing (Myrtle) (Lorene), Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin; Kenneth C. Cushing (Joyce), Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Ivan L. Cushing, Greenleaf, KS; and Doris L. Zemlicka, Wichita, KS. She is survived by her son, David Warren Jackson, Houston, Texas; and daughter, Dena Ethel Jackson Warneke (Michael), Schertz, Texas. Five grandchildren: Kenneth Douglas Jackson, Edmonton, AB, Canada; Alyssa Jean Jackson (Veronica), Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Justin David Jackson, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; Brandon James Warneke, Schertz, Texas; Tyler Steven Warneke, Schertz, Texas. Four great-grandchildren: Brycen Steven Warneke, Schertz, Texas; Breilyn Gail Warneke, Schertz, Texas; Ricki Jean Jackson, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Spencer Douglas Jackson, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. One sibling: Maxine J. Harris (Bruce), Sebring, Florida One sister-in-law: Jean Cushing, Linn, Kansas; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 9:30a.m. at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to a charity of your choice.
