Our precious mother, Norma Nieto, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on March 21, 2021, at the age of 74, in San Antonio, TX. She was born on November 6, 1946 in Laredo, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Isidro and Amelia Trevino. She is survived by her loving children, Nadine Melissa Nieto-Alcala and husband Julian Alcala, Maricella Villarreal and husband Gilbert Villarreal III, and Rey Nieto, Jr.; 4 grandchildren, Linus Villarreal, Isabel Villarreal, Alec Alcala, and John Tristan Alcala; siblings, Sally Rodriguez and husband Frank Rodriguez, Sara Trevino, Emily Stone and husband Alfred Stone, and Isidro Trevino, Jr., and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. If you had the pleasure of knowing our beloved mother, even for a short time, you knew fairly quickly that she loved her 3 children, 2 son-in-laws and 4 grandchildren beyond measure. She was happiest when we were all together cooking, baking, planning our next vacation, talking at the same time and laughing, laughing, laughing. She loved her younger sisters and brother who she regularly spent time with and whose best times together involved slot machines and coupons for the all-you-can-eat buffet. She was a graduate of the Blessed Sacrament Academy class of 1965 and attended San Antonio College. She worked for the U.S. government and retired after over 30 fulfilling years. She was awarded many praiseworthy citations because of the quality of her work and the expertise she showed while working for the Treasury Department in the U.S. Customs Service and Homeland Security. Her beauty was contagious. You left her side feeling that you too should wear less makeup, speak more intelligently and smell more sweetly because she did all of those so naturally. She would relish in watching television shows with her grandchildren about the existence of aliens as they cuddled up close to her on sleepovers and they always left in the morning “believers”. She had an encyclopedic mind for classic movies and could watch them over and over. She loved reminiscing about actor’s and actresses’ personal lives as much as the fine films they made. She never left a home improvement store without a plant for her front step. She never left her house without carefully selecting just the right piece of jewelry to wear and she never left the grocery store without a sweet treat for dessert. She was a faithful Catholic who loved and served the Lord all of her life and she passed her strong beliefs on to all of us. We are certain she has been joyfully reunited with her father, whom she lost too early, her mother whom she lost recently, and her beloved pet dog Abby Rose whom she longed to hold again. We feel privileged and honored to have been her children. She always loved us unconditionally and she was the best mother anyone could wish for. We will miss her forever and never forget her beautiful smile, her infectious sense of humor and strong will. As she always told us, we will love her “all there is...to the moon and back.” Please join us for visitation on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park South. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church. Graveside Service will be on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Burial Park South.
