Owen Harold Zimmermann met his Lord on January 9, 2025. He was born to Edmund and Leonora Rihn Zimmermann on July 31, 1933. His father passed away when he was nine years old. He helped support his mother and paid his own tuition to Central Catholic High School with earnings from a paper route. He graduated from high school in 1950 at the age of 15. After high school he went to work for his brother, Raymond Zimmermann, at Alamo Belt and Equipment. He was drafted into the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict and selected to work at the 8th Infantry Division’s headquarters in South Korea. Upon returning from Korea, he went to work for his brother, James Zimmermann, and brother-in-law, Nile Wright, at Peerless Equipment Company. He worked for Peerless 45 years, retiring in 2000. Soon after returning from Korea, he met Annette Ruth Selsor at a dance in Castroville, Texas. They danced together most of the night. It was love at first sight. He told her of his desire to marry her on December 25, 1955, their third date. He presented her with an engagement ring on the night of The Sweetheart’s Prom for Brackenridge High School. They were married on October 27, 1956, at the Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in San Antonio, Texas. This past October they celebrated their 68th Anniversary. He was preceded in death by his parents and the following siblings: Howard Zimmermann, Irene Wright, Raymond Zimmermann, Myrtle Jory Stopak, Leon Zimmermann, Doris Conley Barr, William Zimmermann, James Zimmermann, and Joseph Zimmermann. His last surviving sibling is Vivian “Bebe” Duffin. He is also survived by his wife, his three children: Julie McEwen, Owen Zimmermann, Jr. (late wife Zelda Sue), and Troy Zimmermann (wife Phetsamay). Grandchildren: Jonathan McEwen, James McEwen, Brianne Calzoncit (husband Larry), Sean Zimmermann, Kelly Cortez (husband Mike), Troy Zimmermann, Jr. (wife Sylvia), Larissa Zimmermann (fiancé Ben), and Brandon Zimmermann (fiancé Carolina). Great grandchildren: Robert McEwen, Gavin Carruthers-McEwen, Maximus McEwen, Owen A. Zimmermann, and Olivia Zimmermann. Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8134 Blanco Rd., San Antonio, TX 78230 on Tuesday January 21, 2025, at 10:00 am followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd., San Antonio, TX 78266. Reception will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church immediately following interment.
