Patrick David Whitley, 93, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. He was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. Patrick was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Evelyn Kneupper Whitley, by his father and mother, Jesse B. Whitley and Hilda Whitley, and brothers Thomas Whitley and Robert Whitley. He is survived by son Patrick Whitley, Jr. (Darlene), daughters Judith Ripps (Willie) and Sharon Amaro (Miguel), grandchildren Kristin Ripps Tate (Matt), Patrick Whitley III (Ashley), William Ripps II (Sam), and Katherine Whitley Kepros (Chris), great-grandchildren Brayden Tate, Emerson Tate, Harper Ripps, Charlotte Ripps, Claire Kepros, Colette Kepros, and Avery Whitley, sisters Sylvia Land, Debbie Gousie (Mike), Angie Schutte (William), brothers Leo Whitley (Marian), Zachary Whitley (Pat), sisters-in-law Edith Kneupper and Velma Whitley, and numerous nieces and nephews. Patrick graduated from St. Gerard Catholic High School, Class of 1949. Soon after graduating high school, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean Police Action. He retired from Greyhound Bus Line in 1985 with 30 years of service as a Terminal Agent and Package Express Sales Representative. His children also attended St. Gerard Catholic High School, where he was involved in various school activities. In addition, he coached his son’s baseball teams and volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. Patrick was a faithfully devoted catholic and parishioner of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, serving in many capacities: Eucharistic Minister, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and Member of the Holy Name Society. For many years, he served as financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus, Council 7256. He achieved the title of Sir Knight, 4th Degree, Assembly 2040. In 2012, Patrick became the proud recipient of the Lumen Gentium Award for his commitment and service to St. Cecilia’s parish. Patrick prayed the rosary daily and faithfully participated in daily masses and novenas. Patrick’s favorite past-times were watching sports on TV and attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s school/sporting events. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to CHRISTUS Children’s Foundation, P.O. Box 1661, San Antonio, TX 78296-1661 or St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 125 W. Whittier St, San Antonio, TX 78210. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park South. Rosary will be recited on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
