Peter Höfl was born July 5, 1934 in Freising, Upper Bavaria, Germany. It is the same town where Pope Benedict the XVI attended the seminary and was ordained to become a Catholic Priest June 29, 1951 at the St. Mary's Cathedral and Peter was present during that celebration. It was June 22, 2025 when Peter went to be with the Lord. He is survived by his loving wife Angela with whom he was married for 68 years, and their four children, John (Mary), Edward (Susan), Christine (Timothy) Ludolph, and Robert (Monica); four grandchildren, Austin, Jaxon, Savanah and Isabella; two sisters, Eleonore and Karin and one brother, Dieter, living in Germany. Peter was the fourth of 14 children born to Johann and Walburga Höfl. One day Peter was invited by his older sister Carola to visit her and her husband Robert Thomson in Bath, Maine. It took him only a couple of weeks when he decided to stay longer than planned. Since he could not find work in Bath, Maine, he moved to Boston, Mass. There he enlisted in the US Air Force. After he arrived at Lackland AFB, he was sent to the Air Force Language School to improve his English. During an outing at Our Lady of Grace Church, he met his wife Angela; the love of his life. In the meantime, while on active duty, he continued his education and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education from St. Mary's University in 1970. Peter completed several overseas assignments as a member of the US Air Force. He spent one year on a remote tour in Alaska, a three year assignment with his family at Toul Rosiers AF Base, France, and a two year tour at Rhine-Main AF Base, Germany. After 20 years of service, Peter retired from the US Air Force in February 1976. On his last overseas station at Rhine-Main AF Base outside Franfurt, his duty assignment was NCOIC of Classification and Training, a Chief-Master Sergeant position. His military honors included two AF commendation Medals and a Master Instructor badge for a job well done. After his retirement, he earned his Master of Education at the University of Our Lady of the Lake. He entered the teaching profession and retired as a School Administrator. Education was very important to him and he encouraged all four of his children to pursue a higher education and all of them earned Bachelor and Master degrees. After his retirement from the San Antonio Independent School District, he put on his traveling shoes and made pilgrimages with his wife to Fatima in Portugal, Santiago De Compostela and Avila in Spain, and Lourdes in France. However, there were additional trips to Rome in Italy, Altoetting in Germany, and Jerusalem in Israel. Peter stayed active with his church at St. Dominic. He joined the Guadalupanos Society and became Vice-President and President of this organization. At the same Catholic Church, he served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years and continued his adoration to Christ on a weekly basis at the Adoration Chapel. Peter was also a great sports enthusiast. He joined a wrestling club at the age of nine and a boxing club when he was 15 years of age. He was awarded many trophies and many championships in boxing for the US Air Force, 1957 and 1958. He also was a mountain climber and used his flatboat in mountain river rafting. Always in search of adventure, Peter is on his final journey. He will be missed by his family, relatives, and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 6, 2025 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rite of Committal to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Following the burial, the family invites everyone to a reception at St. Dominic Catholic Church from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to gather and share memories.
