Ramon C. Padilla, 95-years of age, went home to the Lord on July 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 31, 1928 in Rhineland, Texas to Pedro C. Padilla and Guadalupe Cervantes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Ramon Padilla, Jr., his stepson, Robert Elias, his brothers, Bernardo, Agapito, Pedro Jr., Pablo, and Jose, his sisters, Andrea and Maria De La Luz. He is survived by his daughters, Juanita, Cynthia, Elizabeth, son-in-law, Robert, and stepdaughter, Ermelinda, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter, brothers, Antonio and Juan, sisters, Juanita, Hipolita, Andrea and Carmen, numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Dolores Ojeda Padilla. Mr. Padilla, enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 17. His assignments took him to various military posts throughout the United States. He received orders to embark on a ship from New York to France, where he served until, he was sent to Germany. It was in Germany that he was assigned as a foot soldier, engaging in battles throughout the country. Mr. Padilla later served as a guard at the Nuremburg Trials. After serving overseas, his Infantry Division returned to Fort Lewis, Washington. It was there where he was honorably discharged from military duties. After Mr. Padilla returned home, he joined several Veterans Organizations such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans. He played an active role in each of these organizations throughout his lifetime. Mr. Padilla served as a Volunteer at the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital until May 2022. On two different occasions, he received the Volunteer of the Year award. In total, he served more than eight thousand volunteer hours. And so it was that Mr. Padilla proudly served his country as The Greatest Generation. ******************** Hello Comrades, Family and Friends, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9186 was first chartered on July 27, 1956. On this day, 67 members stood together, as Comrades from our great City and Veterans from Foreign conflicts. They stood strong and signed a document, a Charter, that became the birth of VFW Post 9186. Of those 67 original members, Ramon Padilla was our last living Chart member. He is gone now, and I know he would very much want us to celebrate our 68th anniversary this Friday, however, we decided to postpone this event for a later date to be announced. A date where we will not only celebrate our 68th birthday, but we will also remember the service of Comrade Ramon Padilla. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Military Honors will be rendered at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
