Tributes

On Sunday, March 13, 2016 the Lord our Savior took our beloved Raymond Zaragoza. Born March 15, 1932 in Irapuato, Mexico to Natividad and Maria Luisa Sanchez Zaragoza. In 1942 they moved to Fairfield, Iowa where he attended Fairfield High School. He later served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 having been awarded 3 Bronze Service Stars. In 1955 he married the loved of his life, Esperanza Gonzalez. He worked at the Iowa Malleable Iron Company then graduating from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa with a Culinary Arts Degree in 1976. He was the Manager at the Fiesta Cantina in Ottumwa, Iowa then went to become the Food Service Director at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines, Iowa. Raymond and Esperanza opened the Don Quixote Restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa. They moved to Texas to become Hotel Managers for La Quinta Inns in Brownsville, Texas and retiring in 2001. From there they went to enjoy retirement in San Antonio to be with their children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esperanza, his son, Raymond and his daughter, Lourdes. Raymond is survived by his daughters, Maria Ames of Fairfield, Iowa, Mary Elizabeth Breon and her husband, Danny, Estella Zaragoza; son-in-law, Michael Flores all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Scott Simpson and wife, Selina, Samantha Septer and husband, Cory all of Fairfield, Iowa, Mitchell Breon of San Antonio, Meredith Engler and husband, Brian of Corpus Christi and Mira and Mia Flores of San Antonio; great grandchildren, Alexander, Austin and Hannah Simpson, Nicole and Madison Septer all of Fairfield, Iowa and Ryley Engler of Corpus Christi; brothers, Victor Zaragoza and his wife, Dixie and Rene Zaragoza all of Fairfield, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews. The Zaragoza family would like to offer a special thank you to Danny Breon son-in-law who was his caregiver for the last 3 ½ years. SERVICES Visitation will be on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Oak Hills Mortuary, 8332 Fredericksburg Road. The Graveside Service with Military Honors will be on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Road.
