Tributes

Rebecca (Becky) was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 14, 1949, and was the second child of Jesse J. Jr. and Felicia Beitel. Becky attended St. Cecilia’s Catholic elementary school and the Blessed Sacrament Academy. Becky was a very “people” person as she grew up and loved to meet and interact with her peers. She enjoyed roller skating, twirling batons, and played the piano and the violin. She also loved to bake and cook. Becky attended Providence High School, graduated in 1967 and then received her Licensed Vocational Nurse certification from St. Phillip’s College in 1971. After graduation, she worked at several care centers and later, she worked at the Red Cross blood donation center. She met Bill Hooper at the Red Cross, they were married on March 16, 1974 and they moved to Florida for several years. Their daughter Meghann Denise Hooper was born in San Antonio on August 25, 1978. Bill died in 1988. Becky was an avid reader from her youngest days and even tried her hand at painting landscapes, etc. She thoroughly enjoyed her years spent working in the new-born nursery at the Methodist Hospital. Becky then attended the University of Texas at San Antonio and in 1995 she received her Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting. She worked at Kraft Foods in their accounting division until her retirement in 2009. She was married to David Mangum from 10/06/01 until 10/6/2011. Becky had a life-long hobby/love for hand quilting. She created beautiful, personalized quilts for both family and friends. She even participated in quilting bees at the Davy Crockett Grange in Elmendorf, TX. Becky was preceded in death by parents, Jesse John Beitel Jr, Felicia L Beitel, Husbands: Bill Hooper, David Mangum, and Brother: James Stewart Beitel She is survived by her daughter Meghann D. Hooper and siblings: Jesse John Beitel III and Cecilia Denise Beitel and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation to be held on Tuesday March 21, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Rosary and Mass will be held the following day Wednesday March 22, 2023 rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. and mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church (14714 Edgemont St, San Antonio, TX 78247). Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
