Rebecca De Santos Torres, 90 years of age, passed peacefully into the Lords hands on May 14, 2011 in The Woodlands, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband Gilberto, son Richard and daughter Emma 'Candice' Crisantes. She is survived by her daughters Evila 'Billie' & Dave Stofleth, Martha & Rudy Vergara, Lisa Vera, sons Gilbert & Mary Torres Jr, George & Maura Torres, Jose & Mary Torres, Rudy & Irma Torres, 22 grandchildren and various great-grandchildren. Rebecca was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 28, 1920. She was raised in Lyford, TX until she married and settled in Corpus Christi, TX. During her twilight years she moved to the Woodlands, TX to be in the care of her loving daughter Billie and son-in-law Dave. She was a devout Christian with a strong and unbreakable faith in Christ. She loved and cherished all her daughters, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always thinking and worrying about each and every one of them, offering advice, wisdom and prayers to anyone who needed her help. Besides raising nine children, Rebecca spent much of her productive years working for the Corpus Christi State School caring for people with developmental disabilities. She also worked for the Texas Health Services Authority educating lower income families on nutritional programs and distributing dietary information in poor neighborhoods. One of Rebecca's passions in life was praying the rosary for anyone in need, as she strongly believed in the power of prayer. She will be missed immensely by anyone who came to know her. Rebecca's chosen books for prayer were "The Bible Promise Book" and "An Hour With Jesus". Some of her favorite psalms were Psalm 91:16 "I will please him with a long life, and I will show him my saving power" and Psalm 147:6 "The Lord lifts up those who are suffering and He brings the sinful down to the ground". In addition, she had many favorite prayers, but she consistently prayed in the morning to the Holy Spirit and performed healing prayers before her bedtime. Please offer a prayer of your choosing in her memory. A rosary memorial service will be held at Mission Park Funeral Home, 1700 S.E. Military Dr. San Antonio, TX on Sunday, May 29th at 3:00 pm. Rebecca's wishes were that her ashes be scattered among beautiful flowers. Her family will honor those wishes at a private location and gathering at a later time. We would like to thank the wonderful nurses from Lighthouse Hospice in Conroe, TX who helped us in our time of need, patiently and gently caring for our mother.
