We gather to honor and celebrate the life of Ricardo M. Gonzales, a man of unwavering strength, boundless kindness, and a remarkable legacy of service and love. Ricardo, born in San Antonio on March 15, 1955, began his journey as a proud marine, serving his country with courage during the Vietnam War. It was during his time stationed in Hawaii that fate intervened and led him to his soulmate, Makerani 'Lisa' Gonzales. Their love story was the kind you only hear about in the movies. A union built on mutual respect, unwavering support, and a deep, abiding love. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their beloved daughter Lani Gonzales, who was their greatest blessing on March 16, 1988. Ricardo's sense of duty extended far beyond his military service. He dedicated his career to public service, retiring not only once but three times as a marine, correctional officer at the federal prison, and later as a peace officer for Travis County. In each role, he stood as a beacon of integrity, resilience, and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on all those he served alongside. But Ricardo's most cherished role was that of a family man. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather to Larenzo, Luke, and Ka'Lani. To his family, he was more than a provider. He was their protector, their rock, and their biggest cheerleader. Ricardo never met a stranger. He greeted everyone with a warm smile, a genuine heart, and a wisdom that left a mark on all who had the privilege to know him. His honesty and no-nonsense attitude were matched only by the kindness and generosity that radiated from his golden heart. We remember Ricardo not only for the many hats he wore but for the values he embodied, hard work, loyalty, and above all, LOVE. He taught us that strength is not mastered by words but by actions and that life lived with purpose, kindness, and integrity is a life well-lived. Though he is no longer with us, Ricardo's spirit lives on in the hearts of his wife Lisa, his daughter Lani, and his grandchildren Larenzo, Luke, and Ka'Lani, as well as in the countless lives he touched. May we honor his memory by carrying forward the lessons he taught us and holding each other closer, just as he would have wanted. Rest in Peace, Ricardo Gonzales. Semper Fi.
