Richard “Neal” Worthey age 80 of San Antonio passed peacefully from this life early on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Neal was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Billie Kathryn, his parents James “Jimmie” Clarence and Winnifred “Winnie” Pauline. Brothers Danny and Donny. Nephew Jim Bo Worthey, Brother-in-laws Donny Sharp, Johnny Nichols and Donny Nichols > > He is survived by his daughter Kathy and David Barr II, and son Ritchie and Leslie Worthey. Grandchildren Anthony “AJ” Barr and fiancée Tracy Brown, Chelsea and Brian Campos, Nichole and Tanner Bailey, DrewAnn and Brandon Lazzaro, Erin and Josh Ryder. Great-grandchildren Coby, Caiden and Aniayah Barr, Emmitt and Owen Brown, Parker and Myles Campos, Claire, Braxton and Mason Richard Bailey, Annabella, Breah, Evangeline, Brandon and Lillia Lazzaro, Brody, Scarlett and Kohen Ryder. Sister-in-law Barbara Sharp and Numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members including the Nollkampers that he and Nana adopted as their own. > > Neal came from humble beginnings. His dad and uncle opened Flower Wood Nursery on Hildebrand Ave. His mother was a landscaper. They eventually bought a shrub and tree farm in Poteet Texas where he learned to handle a team of plow mules named Jack and Jennie, as well as all farm equipment. He would brag he could ball and burlap a tree with a balling shovel in ten minutes. He quit school in the eighth grade to work full time on the farm due to his severe dyslexia. Even though he never could actually read, he was a master with numbers and names and covered his disability well with Billie by his side. His family eventually sold the farm and started James C Worthey and Sons Paving Contractors where he worked side by side with his dad and brother. He and Billie eventually started Neal Worthy Contracting where he excelled as a business operator for over 30 years with his son and son-in-law. He enjoyed meeting people and discussing building them an asphalt or concrete driveway or parking lot. Some of his biggest jobs were paving all of the streets in Lytle Texas on several occasions as well as sealcoating the over 100,000 Sq.Ft. Parking lot at Oak Hills Church on several occasions, as well as hundreds of other jobs thru the years. He was a man driven and didn’t take too well to getting older and having to slow down. > > His family started attending Gospel Assembly Church under Brother Orval Cline when Neal was a baby. He and his family continued attending there until his death. He was there thru all the pastoral changes eventually ending with working under his Son-in-law David Barr’s ministry. He received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as a teenager under the ministry of Brother Joe Jones. He loved serving the Lord and ministering and praying for people where he would get so excited and holler and jump around. He had so much faith when he prayed and saw numerous healings and miracles over his lifetime. He loved telling stories, laughing and ministering to people. It was not unusual for him to come home after meeting a new customer, or someone at the store or restaurant, and tell of testifying to them and speaking in tongues. He definitely was not ashamed of His Lord. > > Neal was a prolific hunter and fishermen and always loved telling his stories. He was so happy when in a blind or a boat. He was a mans man and some even called him “John Wayne” when he had on his Cowboy Hat. > He loved his Children, Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, and definitely enjoyed spoiling all of them. > > Go rest now Papa Neal, you deserve it, even though you will be missed greatly. “We will see you in the morning”. > > Visitation will be on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Dominion, 20900 IH 10 West. The Funeral Service will be on Friday, July 3, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the adjacent Mission Burial Park Cemetery. > A meal will be provided for everyone at Gospel Assembly Church, 25294 IH 10 W. (Two exits from the Cemetery
