A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Rita Theresa Bejar went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2022, at the age of 75, in San Antonio, TX. She was born on December 17, 1946 in Bracketville, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eudelio and Phyllis Saenz, and daughter, Nichol Marlowe. Rita is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Joe E. Bejar; children, Cheryld Kaufman, William Gordon (Lisa), Sanford Gordon (Leilani) and Michelle Bejar; 2 grandchildren, Alex Kaufman and Mara Gordon; siblings, Gaylon Wayne Saenz (Cindy), Richard Matthew Saenz (Theresa) and Patricia Ann Miller (Roy), and numerous nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, Rita enjoyed gardening and taking care of animals. She had a green thumb that let her grow and care for any plant she encountered. Her home will always be remembered as having several exotic potted plants and a lush, green front and back yard. Animals in need of care and nurture always found their way to Rita, whom she cared for under her wing until they were fully healed. Some of those animals became beloved pets, whom she loved like her own children. In addition to gardening, Rita enjoyed learning about and collecting various rocks and crystals. She would never leave the house without a small satchel of crystals for herself and to share with others. Anywhere she went, she could identify certain rock formations and would love to tell you about them. Rita touched several lives throughout her work career. From her time at K-Mart, Thrifty’s Thrift Shop, a hospice nursing home, and San Antonio Shoes (SAS), Rita encountered people from all over the world. Her kindred spirit allowed her to connect with any person she met, and her kind heart always found a way to help someone in need. She was always in high demand by her customers and patients. When it was time to unwind for the day, Rita would like to watch various shows and movies about the supernatural, science fiction, fantasy, and nature. Some days, Rita was found reading a book of similar genres. On Sundays, Rita could be found cruising through the city with her husband, Joe, and enjoying the familiar sights of the Sunken Gardens, the San Antonio Missions, and the Riverwalk. During her younger years, Rita could be found looking for seashells on the beach, enjoying the ocean wind during a walk on the beach on a cool afternoon, and taking a swim in the ocean. Rita was selfless and always gave her whole heart into helping others. She was one with nature and every soul and creature around her was better for it. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church on Monday, September 26, 2022. Service will conclude at the church.
