It is in loving memory and with full hearts, we announce the return to eternal rest of Mrs Rita De La Garza Narvaiz, affectionately called “Madre” by her husband and “Tita” by her family, has passed at the age of 69, San Antonio Texas, on May 28, 2025 in her home surrounded by her loved ones after a short second battle with breast cancer. Rita was born in San Antonio Texas to Julia Hernandez Elizondo and Baldemar De La Garza, on September 8, 1955. She went to Highlands High School, where she was a member of the drill team and the spirit club, Rita graduated in 1974. She went on to earn certification in cashiering from San Antonio College. She worked for a hospital after high school but spent most of her working career at HEB for 15 years from which she medically retired after working in video, photo lab and lastly as a pharmacy technician. Rita enjoyed watching movies and was a big fan of horror movies and shows on Netflix and her Firestick. She was a #1 fan of The Walking Dead, even having it as her phone ringtone. Rita enjoyed playing lotería bingo with her family where she was the “bank” for her grandchildren at most family holiday celebrations. As a lover of fashion and designer items for less, Rita very much enjoyed QVC shopping, HSN, Amazon and watching online Ghost hauntings of famous people, watching along as their tombstone were visited by content creators on YouTube. Although Rita wasn’t a sports fan, she loved her favorite Spurs player, Tony Parker and she happily indulged her divided NFL sports team husband and sons with endless Cowboys, Tampa Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers gear. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, trip to Hawaii, cruises, and casinos. Her legacy of love, strength, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all that knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Elias Y Narvaiz. She leaves to cherish her memory her to her sons Adrian Cook (Robin Mejia), Adam Cook (Tamika Cook), Andrew Cook (Courtney Newsome) and step son Elias Narvaiz Jr, her sisters Sylvia De La Garza, and Theresa (Terri) Peña, grandchildren, Adrian Cook, Alexus Cook, Amber Cook, Andriana Cook, Aalijah Cook, Christopher Narvaiz, Alyssa Narvaiz, Tony Narvaiz, and Katie Narvaiz , and 2 great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Julia Hernandez Elizondo and Baldemar De La Garza, and her grandmother Aurelia Hernandez. The visitation service will be held at Mission Park South Funeral Home and Cemetery on Wednesday June 4th at 5pm - 8pm with Deacon Benito Reséndiz, of San Martin de Lo Porres Catholic Church officiating, with the Rosary service at 630. Burial to follow the next day, on Thursday June 5th at Mission Park South on 1700 SE Military Dr, San Antonio, 78214 departing to internment. The family wishes to extend gratitude and thanks to her medical care team at NE Methodist Hospital and to the care team with Heart 2 Heart Hospice. At the request of the family and Rita herself, please wear shades of cream and or all colors of happiness in her honor.
