Tributes

Rizalina "Nina" Decasa Ambray Gonzales passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 6, 2011. She was born on July 4, 1926, in Cebu City, Philippines. She met Mauro C. Gonzales while he was stationed at the Naval Base in the Philippines. They married in August 1947 and moved to San Antonio in 1950. With strength, courage and love, she left behind her Filipino heritage to create a home for her husband and children. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother. Nina was preceded in death by her parents Sophio and Benedicta DeCasa Ambray, her daughter, Rebecca, and grandson, Ruben Roque. She is survived by her beloved husband, Mauro C. Gonzales; two sons, Antonio and Vincent Gonzales; 5 daughters and their spouses, Lillian & Bill Needham, Virginia & Terry Hadley, Mary Ann Gonzales, Theresa & Fernando Medellin, and Cynthia Martinez; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Sean & Lee Needham, Brandy & Clint Snipe, Joshua and Vanessa Hadley, Sadira Gonzales, Bryan and Melissa Medellin, Rizalina Medellin, Lisa and Chris Timmer, Richard and Carmen Martinez III, April and John Cavazos; 13 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Gracie, Isabelle, Bryan Jr., William, Richard IV, Daniel, Adaes, Aries, John, Breanna, Hope, and Timothy; and numerous relatives in the Philippines. Special thanks to Dr. Denise Flinn, Encompass Home Health, Hospice Compassus and all the other health care providers for their loving and compassionate care of my wife and our mother. Visitation will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapel South, 1700 SE Military Dr., on September 13, 2011, from 5:00 until 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. On September 14, 2011, a funeral procession will depart from the Funeral chapel about 8:45 AM to arrive at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 130 San Augustine Ave., for a 9:30 AM mass.
