Robert B. Perry Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi on October 29, 1920 Departed on July 12, 2009 and resided in San Antonio, TX Memorial: July 15, 2009 Service: Internment: Sunset Memorial Gardens Robert Binns Perry quietly passed on July 12, 2009 at the age of 88. He is survived by his loving wife, Edna R. Perry, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many other family members and too many friends to count. Children include Jack Perry, Gulfport, MS; Dr. Claud Perry, Beaumont, TX; Hank Perry and wife Melinda, Longmont, CO; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Roberts and husband Daryl, Independence, IA; and a daughter-in-law, Fran Perry, Gulfport, MS. Grandchildren are Robb Jennifer Perry, Florence, NJ; Todd Perry, Austin, TX; Amy David Verrett, Humble, TX; Scott, Greg and Jennifer Perry, Longmont, CO; Andrew and Peter Roberts, Independence, IA and Natalie Perry, Hattiesburg, MS. Great grandchildren are Lauren Perry, Kingwood, TX, Emma Verrett, Humble, TX and Ryan Perry, Florence, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Thelma B. Perry and son, Lee Perry. Bob was born and raised in Mississippi to Henry V. Perry and Maggie J. Binns on October 29, 1920. He graduated from high school in Hattiesburg, MS, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and served with honor in the South Pacific as a radio operator until the end of WWII. Upon his return from the war, Bob completed his college education with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi Southern College in 1948. He was the first in his family to do so. He taught chemistry and math at Perkingston Junior College in Mississippi for a few years and tried his hand at running his own business. He spent 32 years working in civil service developing training programs and teaching for the U.S. Air Force. He retired from civil service, and he and Edna traveled the country for many years visiting family and friends. Passionate about family, his church, sports he loved golf, politics and current events; Bob was an enthusiastic story teller. We never tired of hearing his stories or debating the issues of the day. We'll miss watching him complete his crossword puzzles every day – one of his favorite pastimes. He took pride in raising four boys and watching over his ever expanding family. He was a member and Elder in the Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church. Support of the church and involvement in their many activities were a great source of comfort and satisfaction for him. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Nelson. Dad stayed with us a long time as a result of his many years of support and guidance. Memorial bequests may be made to Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church at 1101 West Woodlawn Ave., San Antonio, TX 78201. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM at Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church in San Antonio on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Internment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 1:30 PM at the Cremation Garden.
