Robert G. Garcia, born August 7, 1948, lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, entered eternal rest on January 22, 2023. Robert married the love of his life, Enriqueta Vela, lovingly known as “Cat”, in 1968. Robert and Cat have 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. All of this because 2 people fell in love. Robert was nicknamed “Green Hornet” as a young man in high school that eventually shortened over the years to “Hornet” by those who knew him best. He enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and football and when he couldn’t play them, you’d most likely catch him watching these sports on television. He was the one who tossed the ball around with his children and grandchildren, both the boys and the girls. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves fan. He loved to sing to the oldies and his all-time favorite, Elvis Presley too. You’d also find him tinkering with cars and often sharing his own experiences and love for the “classics” that he was lucky enough to drive in his youth. Robert worked for Via Metropolitan Transit as a Bus Operator for 30 years before retiring. His kindness, humor, and straightforwardness often drew people of all walks of life to him; this made for many friendships wherever he went in the city. We are grateful for all the wonderful advice and guidance he gave, extremely blessed with the memories he created with us and for the unconditional love he showed us. His family vows to continue his legacy by moving forward in the same spirit of love, honor, and respect that he shared with all those who knew him. Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Enriqueta, children, Rebecca (Kenneth), Sandra (Richard), Roberta (Rande), Robert Jr. (Margie) and Matthew. Grandchildren include, Jordan (Marie), John (Isa), Cameron (Fernanda), Ariel, Christian, Katelyn, Matthew Jr., Zane, Robert, Jared, and Brady. Great grandchildren, Jackson, Jade and Elias. Sisters RoseMary, Angelina, Olivia, Victoria and Patricia, brother Roger and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Teodora, father Edubigen, stepfather, Gregorio, brothers, George, David and Ernest and would be grandson in law, Bryan. Viewing will be held Monday, February 6th from 5 pm to 8 pm at: Mission Park Funeral Chapel - Cherry Ridge 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr San Antonio, TX 78230 Church services will be on February 7th at 9:30 am at: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2103 St. Cloud Rd. San Antonio, Texas 78228 Funeral procession to Ft. Sam Houston is set to begin from the church at 10:30 am.
