Robert E. (Bob) Lee, Sr., 91, devoted husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2020. Born March 7, 1929, in San Antonio, TX, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Boehme Lee, and sons, Bob Lee, Jr. (Karen), Ron Lee (Shirley) and Greg Lee (Ginger). Bob was a loving Grandpa to surviving grandchildren, Jeanette Driffill (Steve) Erin Hobbs (Thomas), Chad Lee (Kristine), Morgen Lee, Shelly Zawadzki (Lance) and Grace Lee, and his great-grandchildren: Drew and Reese Driffill, Margaret (Maggie) Hobbs, Kenzie and Aubree Lee and Tate Zawadzki. Bob is survived by his brother-in-law, Donald Boehme and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by their son, William (Bill) Lee, their grandson, Robert Austin Lee, his parents James (Turk) and Ethel Lee, and sisters Virginia Harris and Norma Katz. Bob graduated from Fox Tech High School, San Antonio, TX, class of 1948 where he was a member of the Buffalo Football team and the 1947 State Champion 440 yd Relay Team. During his high school years, he was a member of the Melody Kids dance band playing the saxophone and clarinet. Bob attended Texas A&I University, Kingsville, TX, where he served as Student Body President and played Javalena football prior to his service in the US Air Force. Frances and Bob were married two days after Christmas, 1952, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville, TX, prior to moving into their first home, Patrick AFB, Cocoa Beach, Florida, where Bob's service extended from 1951 through 1955. His USAF activities included working with guided defense weaponry. After he completed his military service he returned to school to become a 1957 graduate of Texas A&I. Bob worked over 40 years in the electrical and industrial lighting industry and enjoyed gathering with ERT co-workers in his retirement years. Bob is a former parishioner of the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, San Antonio, where he and Frances belonged to the St. Blaise Family Guild. They were founding members of St. Matthew Catholic Church, San Antonio, where he was a devoted member of the VIP Club, active in Catholic Youth Organizations (CYO) and Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troops #286/271 for which he was honored with the St. George Award. Additionally, he was a member of the St. Anthony Claret Catholic Church, San Antonio, Men's Club. During his retirement, Bob and Frances enjoyed attending his Air Force 11th. Pilotless Bomber Squadron’s reunions in various cities. They enthusiastically supported their grandchildren's scholastic, talent and athletic activities & competitions. Bob was a life-long hunter, enjoying sausage making and family gatherings at the family’s Boehme-Lee Ranch at which he and the family hosted an annual Boy Scout campout event for the past 54 consecutive years. The family would like to sincerely thank the many caregivers, nurses and doctors at the Etta Assisted Living-Shavano Park (formerly Brookdale-Shavano), WellMed Bridges Palliative Care and Compassus Hospice who cared for Bob during these past few years. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 21, 2020, 10:00am at St Matthews Catholic Church on Wurzbach Rd. through Mission North with interment following at Mission North Cemetery on IH-10, near Leon Springs. Pallbearers are: Chad Lee, Steve Driffill, Thomas Hobbs, Gerard Boehme, Michael Boehme, Wayne Katz. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Presentation Sisters, located at 8931 Callaghan Road, San Antonio, TX 78230. In accordance with CDC safety precautions, we ask to wear a mask and practice social distancing. For everyone’s safety please honor the family from a distance.
