Robert Perez 74, passed away peacefully at a Local Hospital in San Antonio, TX on September 2, 2023, in the company of his loving family. He was Born and raised by his grandparents in Falfurrias, Texas. After graduating from High School, he graduated from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing. Robert was a dedicated employee as an Auditor and Supervisor for State of Texas Comptrollers of Public Accounts for over 42+ years. He dedicated his life to his wife, children, and grandkids. Robert was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend. He always enjoyed having family and friends over, especially for backyard BBQ’s. Many of His children’s friends were always around during their school, college and even afterwards as they started their own families. Above all, he was a proud family man, who made clear to his wife, children, grandchildren, and family as well as friends he would do anything for them. Robert was an incredibly accomplished elite runner, coach, and mentor. He competed and held many awards and records in marathons including at least 9 Boston Marathons, and other races of 50, 54, 62, 72, 200, and 501, miles and 6-day races. He placed first overall for the 100k National Championship. He was a two-time team member of the USA Team in the 100k World Championship (62 miles) and four times as an alternate. He competed against world class record holders throughout his running career. Raced all over the world gave him the opportunity to travel with his wife and family who supported him at all of the events. Robert and Sylvia were deeply involved in the beginning of the now famous Beach to Bay Relay Marathon in Corpus Christi, Tx, and various other race events. After retiring, he and Sylvia traveled to many countries around the world and enjoyed over 40 cruises together, sometimes alone but often with friends and family. Robert was a man of faith and enjoyed sharing time at Easter and Christmas and other holidays with his family and friends. He and Sylvia even got to see the Pope in Rome, Italy. Robert is survived by his loving wife Sylvia of 54 ½ years; his daughter, Priscilla (David) Haldeman of San Antonio, Tx; his Son Robert, Jr of Spring, Tx; Six grandchildren: Matthew, Michael Haldeman, San Antonio, TX; Eric (Ambar) Perez, Houston, TX; Andrea, Angelina, Evan Perez of Spring, TX. Mother Manuela Perez; his four Sisters Lydia Moore, Idalia (Lupe) Moreno, of St Paul, MN; Dora Rivera of Pharr, TX; Raquel (Gary) Moore of Gatesville, TX; five brothers Humberto (Luz), Gilbert (Esmeralda) of Alice, TX; Richard (Lisa) of Killeen, TX; Alberto, Jose (Dawn) of St Paul, MN, He is survived by numerous Brothers-in-Law, and Sisters-in-Law, especially Melissa Sharer and son Zachary (Adria) and grandsons who Robert loved very much. Numerous Nieces and Nephews Robert is preceded in death by his Father Seferino Perez, siblings Juan Perez, Manuela Romero, Grandparents Luis and Carolina Lopez, Numerous Uncles and Aunts Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. The Rosary will begin at 11:00 A.M. followed by the Service at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Lockehill Cemetery.
