On February 22, 2024, Roberta Hahn Ottmers joined her Lord and Savior, along with many friends and family when she left this earth. She was born April 19, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by her husband Wilburn, her son Stephen (Ottmers) and wife Julie, her son Jeffrey (Ottmers) and wife Michelle, and daughter Heather (Ottmers) and husband Brent Caddell. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Ashley (Ottmers) Ortiz and husband Stephan Ortiz, Zachary Ottmers, Austin Ottmers, Avery Ottmers, Ellis Caddell and Brynlee Caddell. In addition, she had 2 beautiful great grandchildren: Lyla Ortiz and Ren Kai Ortiz. Divine Mercy Rosary will begin on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at St. Jerome Catholic Church (7955 Real Road, Martinez, TX 78263). Interment will then be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266). A celebration of life with family visitation and lunch will follow at the Timberwood Park Clubhouse (26631 Timberline Dr, San Antonio, TX 78260 – gate code 29717#). It is difficult to summarize over 80 incredible years of living. Roberta lived a busy, rewarding and full life. She worked alongside her husband Wilburn, who she was married to for over 60 years, and they ran an auto repair business. Ottmers Auto Service was in business for over 45 years. She could be found greeting customers, performing the accounting, and doing anything and everything to make the business successful. Many family members, friends and customers called her “Birdie” and her grandchildren called her “Grammy”. She and Wilburn had a love story that showed what true commitment and dedication is about. Their servanthood to each other will leave a mark on us all. She was a woman who had a strong, unwavering faith and lived a life representative of that. Roberta was always involved in her church (Holy Name and St Jerome Catholic Church) and the elementary and middle school (Holy Name Catholic School), where her children attended school. She was part of the PTC at the church and school for many years. She was heavily involved in the annual church/school festival and fund-raising events. She was a crafty person - building spooky haunted whales out of refrigerator boxes and many things with paper mache. She had a creative mind and could always bring her ideas to reality. Roberta was the person who made things happen; there was no task too great for her and she did all things with excellence. She loved to fish with her husband and children at the coast in the land cut south of Corpus Christi, TX. There are many fond memories of a simpler time spent in the quiet of the ocean. She also loved to hunt doves and spend time at their ranch west of Uvalde, TX. She was quite the markswoman! Roberta was social and a loyal connector of people. A group of 12 of her friends from high school played Bunco and ate dinner every month for well over 50 years and her homemade egg rolls were famous. She was a woman full of grace and compassion. She was a mother figure and role model for many people, even those outside of her immediate family. Roberta was bold and confident, which led her to push new boundaries beyond the example that was set for her. She and her lifelong best friend, Carol Waclawczyk, fearlessly explored traveling and new adventures. This taught their daughters to be strong, self-aware and independent. New York was a special place in all of their hearts, and always will be. Her kindness and gentleness prevailed, even when her mind began to fail. She was a friend and loved by all, an enemy to none, and she will be deeply missed.
