On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Rodolfo L. Gomez, father of five children, entered eternal rest at the age of 90. Rodolfo was born on June 2, 1933. He was raised on the farm of August Garber, in Uhland, Texas. There he learned to be a rancher and farmer. Surviving Family Members: Rodolfo Gomez, Jr. (son) & Esther Linda; Juan C. Gomez (son) & Peggy; Hector Z. Gomez (son); Terry Campos (daughter) & David; Juan C. Gomez, Jr. (grandson) whom he raised. Avelina Garcia (sister); Ermelinda Saenz (sister); Cesar Gomez, Jr. (half-brother); Louis Gomez (half-brother); Becky Castillo (half-sister); Mary Jane Garcia (half-sister). He is survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Cesar and Angelina Gomez; Jovita L. Gomez his wife of 49 years; Josephine Tolbert (daughter); Rosita Ornelas (sister); Glafiro Gomez (brother); Antonio Gomez (brother); Arnulfo Gomez (brother); Linda J. Gomez (daughter-in-law); & Jose Manuel Gomez (half-brother). Rodolfo honorably served in the United States Army (Reserves) for 38 years (1955-1993). During this time, he demonstrated true valor and dedicated service to his country. He was employed with Office of the Adjutant General-Texas Military Department, as a security officer, for 36 years (1956-1992). During his lifetime, he developed a real interest in golf and baseball. He was no stranger to the Kickapoo Casino. He enjoyed winning more than losing. He was a hard- working man, dedicated to his family, everything he did was for them. People gravitated toward him. He was a magnetic force. His 'spirit' was inspirational. He had a way of encouraging others. He was trustworthy, generous and grounded. Because of him, We, his children, have the hearts of a lion and an unstoppable work ethic. He provided wise words of advice, and loved each of us unconditionally. He taught us to serve others with a 'giving heart'. He would always make sure family members were safe and well taken care of. A viewing will be held for Rodolfo L. Gomez on May 7, 2024 (Tuesday) at Mission Park South, 1700 SE Military Drive during the hours of 5:00pm-8:00pm. Recitation of the rosary is at 6:00pm. On May 8, 2024(Wednesday) Chapel opens at 8:30am at Mission Park South at 9:45am funeral procession departs to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. The committal service is at 10:30am at shelter #4; 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road. Pallbearers: David Campos, Jr.; Joe M. Gutierrez, Jr.; Arthur Martinez; James Gomez; John Gomez; Robert Garibay; Alfredo Rodriguez; Jimmy DeJesus, & Guillermo C. Zepeda Honorary Pallbearer). We would like to thank Vitas Health Care, Johnny (CNA) and Anna (social worker) & all the nurses and nurse practitioners; Cindy Rodriguez, Michelle Martinez and Joey Gutierrez (grandson) who all worked tirelessly to keep him comfortable at home. Countless prayers from family and friends are equally appreciated.
