Rodolfo Palomo Mosqueda passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 79 on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Born on November 11, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, Rudy was the son of Santos and Olivia Mosqueda and one of sixteen children. He grew up alongside siblings Santos, Esperanza, Juanita, Jesus, Jose, and Juan, while several of his other siblings passed away at birth. Rudy attended Kennedy High School, where he participated in the Kennedian Literary Society, D.E. Club parliamentarian, Football, Choir, and Letterman’s Club. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1966. On October 21, 1968, he married Guadalupe (Lupe) Martinez. Together, they raised six children: Dorothy, Alfonso (Al), Anthony, Gilbert, Elizabeth, and Maria Teresa (Terry). Rudy cherished his wife Lupe, always wanting her by his side. He was a strong, supportive, and loving man who built a solid foundation for his family. As a father, he was nurturing, protective, and always present through both the best of times and the worst of times. Rudy enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles. Known for his humor and sarcastic wit, he enjoyed life. When he was not working at HEB, he loved spending time outdoors, often taking his family camping at Garner State Park. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, barbequing, and watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Rudy also loved family gatherings, music, and relaxing with a cold beverage. He supported his children and grandchildren by attending school and sporting events and was affectionately known as “grandpa” or “papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even at the age of three, Noah, one of the youngest of all the great grandchildren, knew his great grandfather’s love, as he hugged and kissed his great-grandfather goodbye the day prior to his passing. Rudy retired from HEB after more than thirty years as a skilled meat cutter. Throughout his life, he held other jobs and also served in the United States Army Reserves as a medic for six years. Although he rarely spoke of his service, Rudy proudly displayed the US flag outside his home, and believed in his country, and what it stands for. Rudy and Lupe lived in the house his father built on the westside of town. On Sundays, he attended an early morning Spanish mass at St. Timothy’s Church. He spent much time gardening, tending to the yard and fixing things around the home. His brothers, Jesse and Joe, often visited, sitting outside and sharing time together. They accompanied him to visit his sister, Hope, every week for breakfast and played the lotto. Jesse and Joe were a steady support for Rudy during his battle with cancer. Rudy is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Mosqueda; his children Dorothy Pedraza, Alfonso Lopez, Anthony Lopez, Gilbert Lopez (wife Cindy), Elizabeth Hill (husband Jason), Maria Teresa Morales (husband Gilbert), and Olivia Mosqueda; his thirteen grandchildren Antonio, Samantha, Eric, Savannah, Gilbert Jr., Rudy, Matthew, Marc, Veronica, Salvador, Jenna, Danielle, and Alyssa; and numerous great grandchildren; his siblings Esperanza, Jesus (wife Terry), Joe (wife Rosario) and Juan (wife Isabel); and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Santos and Olivia Mosqueda; his brother Santos; triplet siblings David, Raul, and Maria; twin siblings Carmen and Juanita; siblings Elias, Joaquin, Jesus, Esther, Beatrice; brother-in-law Oscar Reyes; son-in-law Michael Pedraza; and grandson Michael Pedraza Jr. Rudy touched countless lives with his kindness and love. He taught his family to work hard but live kindly, laugh easily, and love without limits. Rudy encouraged everyone to pursue their dreams, supported them through challenges, and carried them through difficult times. He faced his own struggles and illness with quiet resilience, never complaining and taking each day as it came. Though Rudy is no longer with us physically, his love, wisdom, and strength will always be remembered. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved. May his spirit continue to shine in the lives of all those he touched.
