ARANGUA Roland Arangua born on June 9, 1939 passed peacefully in his home and went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father, Napoleon Gilberto Arangua and his mother Dolores Vega Arangua. He is survived by his wife Vickie Arangua, his children Monica Arangua, Belinda Arangua and Alexander Arangua; his daughter-in-law Ceclia Arangua, his adoring grandson Justin, grandchildren Danny, Becky, Stephanie, Laura and four great-grandchildren; his brother Gus Arangua, sister-in-law Ruby Arangua and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will begin on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church with a procession from the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ft. As a young child, Roland was an altar boy at St. Ann's Catholic School and later joined the Boy Scouts. As a young man, Roland attended Burbank High School and kept in contact with the many friends he had made. Roland was a tireless and very prideful worker and held jobs at the San Antonio Light Newspaper, Handy Andy, and Piggly Wiggly. At 17 years of age, Roland proudly joined the United States Army and attended MP school at Fort Gordon, Georgia. In 1985, SSG Roland Arangua completed the advanced NCO course for Reserve Components at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana and joined the Texas Army National Guard Reserves assigned to the 149th PSC Camp Mabry TX. In 1990, Roland was activated in support of Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm. Roland's primary specialties were Personnel Records Specialist, Military Police and Infantryman Team Leader. Roland was awarded the following; National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Ten-Year Device, Army Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter Badge Rifle, and Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. In addition, he received numerous certificates of achievement and merit. Roland was enlisted in the Texas State Guard 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, he supported the Hurricane Katrina mission as MSG 1st Brigade Communications NCO at Kelly Air Force Base; Roland served in the Texas State Guard for over 20 years. Roland began with the Bexar County Sheriff's Department voluntarily as a reserve officer and was soon hired on and his career began as a peace officer, ultimately retiring as a civil process server in 2001. Roland worked for the Bexar County Sheriff's Department for 23 years and proudly retired at the age of 62. Roland was honored to be a member of V.F.W. Post #9186. Roland loved life, laughter and the company of family, friends, and even strangers. Roland loved music, dancing, Gucci his Pomeranian – he simply loved LIFE. He was a friend to everyone and never reserved, he was a genuine person with a heart of gold, great sense of humor and a "laugh" that could never be duplicated which will be so sorely missed. Roland and Vickie enjoyed several trips together. Roland was a very joyful man loved by many; all of whom have been waiting for him up in heaven. Roland would read the Sunday newspaper and would often see friends of his who had already past, always flooding his eyes with tears. Roland was the best there is and all who met him were blessed to have known him. – "They just don't make 'em like him anymore". Rest in peace.
