Rosa Lee Malkus January 11, 1925 – November 20, 2015 Rosa Lee Bizzell Malkus, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2015. Rosa Lee was born in Albany, Texas, on January 11, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Malkus. She met John when he was stationed in Texas during World War II. They were married for 51 years. Rosa was a preschool teacher for many years. She loved dealing with young children, who were so eager to learn. She later worked as a librarian at Kelly Air Force Base. This career helped fuel her love of reading, which she passed on to her children. Rosa Lee was active in the volunteer community. For many years she volunteered at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital, and later served as President of the Yellow Rose Volunteer Auxiliary. She so enjoyed her time spent at Warm Springs. She especially loved making tray favors for the patients, and often purchased items herself so that the volunteers could make special items for holidays. Rosa really loved spending time with her grandchildren. Every year she would gather all of them, even if that meant driving long distances to pick them up, so they could all dye Easter eggs at her home. She continued the tradition with her great grandchildren until her death. She is survived by her three children, daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Donald Christilles of San Antonio; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Jim Johnson of Kingwood, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Sandra Malkus of San Antonio, grandchildren Patrick Christilles, Keri McGinnis, Kimberly Thomas, Dawn Lawrence, Brent Johnson, Joshua York, and Dustin York. She is also survived and celebrated by 14 great grandchildren, who called her Gee Gee. The family would like to thank Dr. Hoan Pho and staff, Patriot Heights, Brookdale Kingsley, and Vitas Hospice Care for the excellent care they afforded Rosa Lee in the last years of her life. A Mass celebrating her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Road. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
