A time to be born Rosalyn Jane King was born on October 4th, 1949 to the late Marvin King and Johnnie M. Spence-King. A Time to Grow Rosalyn went to Randolph County Training School in Cuthbert, GA. Rosalyn was very athletic. She was a spring board champion and she ran track. Rosalyn was also an academic straight A student and was a champion in the Spelling B's. In 1964, she moved to Newark, New Jersey where she met the love of her life Paul Ashford. She and Paul begin to date in 1965. They met in the band room. Initially, she wouldn't talk to him, but he wore her down. What really made her notice him was when he agreed to play the Baritone Sax and she played the Alto Sax. Rosalyn wore many hats in Orange, NJ. She was a democratic county committee member and she was the housing commissioner of the housing authority in Orange, NJ ensuring that people had decent living conditions. She was also the president of the PTA while her children were in school. She was also a Girl Scout leader and she recently shared those skills with her granddaughter Breauna's troop teaching them how to do crafts. Professionally, she was a trust officer for what is now Bank of America. She also worked for Liberty Mutual in the claims department. Rosalyn also was a tax preparer where she helped many people recover lots of money in doing their tax returns. A Time to Love With Paul and Rosalyn, it was love at first site. During the time that Paul and Rosalyn was dating, there were riots going on in Newark, NJ for civil rights. Paul loved her so much that despite there was a lot of shooting and tanks in the street, he had to get to his beloved Rosalyn. He didn't even notice. On February 8th 1969, Rosalyn and Paul were wedded and then here comes Charlotte and shortly after that Paula, then Adrienne and Ericka. Paul and Rosalyn moved to Orange, NJ shortly after having Adrienne; where they raised their four daughters. In 1997, Rosalyn and Paul got their first son-in-law Mike DeLon. In 2001, they got their second son-in-law, David Velazquez. In 1999, Rosalyn and Paul got their first grandchild, Josiah. In 2001, she got her first grand daughter, Breauna. In 2005, Zavier was born. Then they got Jadon, Ashton and Trevor. 10 years ago as fate would have it she and Paul moved to San Antonio, Texas to start the next phase of their life. This move changed everyone's life. As a result, Ericka moved to Texas then Adrienne and David and their family. Lastly, the DeLon's moved here. All of them! Charlotte and Mike closed on their homes the same day as Carrie and Luther DeLon. Allowing the family tree to be complete. Paula started this transition moving to Atlanta. While living in San Antonio, she got a change to rebuild her relationship with her beloved cousin/sister Edith. They hung out so much we called them Thelma and Louise. Rosalyn loved life completely. She would teach her grandkids how to do arts and crafts; building things like Christmas wreaths. She helped develop all of them academically. She was so committed to education that she home schooled her grandson Josiah. She would dance with them and sing. She loved dancing and singing. At her 50th Birthday, she and her two cousins Edith and Joann danced so much they looked like the Sister Sledge. They loved having fun together. She lived through her grandchildren experiences. She recently had a chance to see her granddaughter Breauna fence and it reminded her of when she use to fence when she was a little girl. She expected nothing but greatness from her grands and would sacrifice everything to ensure it. A Time to Worship Rosalyn was a heart felt believer. She was Baptized in Cuthbert, Georgia the 2nd Sunday in June of 1956. She loved the Lord and wanted to ensure that her children would have a relationship with the Lord. Rosalyn was a member of Hillside and Valley Presbyterian where she was an Elder, Financial Clerk and a Sunday School Teacher. A Time to Die On April 20th, 2012, the Lord called Rosalyn. A Time to Mourn Rosalyn loved deep and unconditionally. You could tell her anything. She had the desire to create harmony and forgiveness even if you didn't want to. We called her the glue. Rosalyn leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 43 years, Paul Ashford, her mother Johnnie King, four daughters; Charlotte, Paula, Adrienne, and Ericka, two son-in-laws; Michael DeLon and David Velazquez, six grandkids; Josiah, Breauna, Zavier, Jadon, Ashton and Trevor, three sisters and a brother; Phyllis, Martha, Greta and Marvin, Jr, brothers & sisters-in-law; Everna Brown, Ira Ashford, Irving Brown, and Debbie Loges, Sisters/Cousins; Edith and Joann, nieces and nephews; Alexis, Terry, Sal, Omara, Josie, Xavier, Roderick, Robert, Latasha, Sharon, Shakilra, Eric, Iris, Leigh, Erica, Imani, John Anthony, Ibn, Naisha, Dominique, Nicolas, Jacqueline, Pedro, Carmen and Julie, and a host of family and friends. "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and lean on me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 Rosalyn leaves a legacy of love to all those who knew her. She loved life and lived it to the fullest being a beaconing example of how to live with acceptance and love. She was a great person and will be missed more than words can express. SERVICES A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, April 28, 2012 at Oak Hills Mortuary. A Celebration of Life Service Saturday, April 28, 2012, 1:00 PM at True Vision Church, 5212 Heath Road, San Antonio, TX with Pastor Michael Steve Brown officiating.
