Tributes

Rose Marie McElfresh joined her Lord on October 7, 2023. She was born on June 12, 1941 in Warren, Ohio to Pete Goche, Jr. and Carmella DeLaratta. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ronald Goche. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Melvin McElfresh; daughters, Patrice McElfresh and Susanne McElfresh (Christopher King); son, Lowell McElfresh (Elvira); brother, Galen Goche (Kathy); niece Kara Wert (Jordan), Nephew Pete Goche (Stephanie) and their kids, her grandchildren, Pierce and Shawn Maki, Etienne and Damir McElfresh, Xander and Teagan King. She met her husband when they both worked in the library at YSU. She asked him out to see a play. She chose well as he took care of her the last two and half years of her life. She was in poor health following brain surgery and immobile the last couple of months. She played bunco in her neighborhood, had lunch with The Golden Girls, worked out at Curves 1100 times. She loved to shop and she doted on her grandchildren. She raised her family in the Shenandoah neighborhood where she was often at the pool, playing tennis, spending time with neighbors. She served terms as the President of the Shenandoah home owner’s association and on several non-profit committees. After marrying, she left Ohio and lived in Mississippi, Florida and Hawaii following her husband’s military career. She returned to Dayton Ohio before her final move to San Antonio, Texas. She attended library conferences all over the country for over 20 years. She traveled frequently to London and was able to see numerous places to include Calabria, Sicily, Carthage, Tunisia, Rome, Amsterdam, Paris, Vienna, Budapest, Edinburgh and more. She won six trivia contests on a single cruse and answered most quiz show questions correctly. She was a big fan of Jeopardy. She was a salutatorian graduate of Lordstown High School, Youngstown University (English) and Our Lady of the Lake University (Masters in Library Science). She worked as a teacher, librarian and consultant. She is a graduate of Youngstown University and Our Lady of the Lake University. She worked as a teacher, librarian and consultant. She was active with San Antonio Friends of the Library (life member), Texas Library Association (executive board) and the Conservation Society. SERVICE Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, San Antonio. A Chapel Service will be on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 12:00pm at the funeral home chapel, with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
