It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Roger Valdez, Jr. He passed away unexpectedly at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital with his wife, Gloria, by his side. Roy went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2021, at the age of 70. He was born January 5, 1951 in San Antonio, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margaret Valdez, Sr.; and sister, Nancy Konzen. Roy is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Gloria Leija; daughters, Jacqueline Bueché (Ryan) and Amanda Valdez (Ryan Snodgrass); step-children, Aaron Leija (Jennifer) and Alison Guadiano (Michael); sisters, Sylvia De La O and Ida Vincent (George); 7 grandchildren, Elida Morgan Bueché, Henry Fox Bueché, Austin Morgenroth, Adrian Leija, Mikey Guadiano, Dylan Leija and Moxie Guadiano; nieces and nephews; Melissa Bujanos (Roger), Rebecca Tinch, Nikki Vincent, Phillip Vincent (Samantha), Jeffrey Jaeske, Jason Jaeske (Ruth) and Alfred Jaeske, Jr. (Kathy), and other extended family members and friends. Roy graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1970 where he was an all-star athlete, excelling in both football and baseball. After high school, he joined the United States Army, and served in Korea. Upon returning to San Antonio in 1973, he moved to Houston, Texas where he started his career in Civil Engineering. During this time, he continued to play baseball in various city leagues. Roy returned to San Antonio in 1981 and continued working in Civil Engineering until his retirement in 2011. Roy loved fishing, barbequing, dancing, and watching sports. He spent his free time visiting with family, especially his sisters, his cousins, and his mother. He enjoyed working on household projects and helping family and friends. He had a tremendous sense of humor, possessed unparalleled charm, and lit up every room he walked into. Roy was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021 for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Holy Name Catholic Church. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 10:45 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
