Royce Jost passed away on December 26, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas from respiratory failure. Royce was born in Loeb, Texas July 10, 1937 to Walter and Elsie Jost. He was raised in Fredericksburg, TX along with his seven beautiful sisters and two loving brothers. Royce was a self-made man who had a zest for living life to its fullest. Always being in the moment whatever that moment might be. A successful businessman, he started General Roofing and Remodeling in the 1960s and was in the home improvement business until the late 1990s. Royce loved traveling, especially with his loving wife Tanya of 40 years who predeceased him in 2010. They saw the world together. Royce was a family man who loved watching football with his son and “daughter in love” and who loved white Christmases in Colorado with his daughter and son in law. But most of all he loved being with his grandsons fishing in the Colorado lakes and rivers, the Texas Gulf and the California and Mexico coasts. He was always there for his family with a listening ear and advice to give. Each year Royce enjoyed volunteering and attending the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. He was a life time member of the Public Affairs Committee and was to be honored as the Outstanding Committeeman of the year at the annual Hall of Fame Induction and Award Ceremony on January 11, 2018. Royce’s children were there to assist him through his journey of medical treatment and therapy. They had to chuckle when they read the occupational therapy goal he gave as “get back to playing cards”. Royce was an avid poker player and enjoyed all kinds of card games with family and friends. He finished eleventh in 1984 at the ESPN National Poker Tournament in Las Vegas. Royce is preceded in death by his wife Tanya Jost, sisters Margaret Jost Potter and Catherine Jost and brother William Jost. He is survived by his children Lea Leach (Stewart), Jeffrey Jost (Sharon), and Billy Basil Jost, grandchildren Christopher and Patrick Leach, sisters Louise Yampolsky, Marilyn Brinkworth, Joyce Harczo, Ruth Klemstein (Lawrence), Jeanette Biermann (Bobbie), and brother Wallace Jost (Laura), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Stone Oak located at 23755 US HWY 281 N, San Antonio, TX 78258 beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North located at 20900 W IH 10, San Antonio, TX 78257. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Dominion Country Club beginning at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to St. Jude’s, the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio, or the charity of your choice. Royce was a loving and generous son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
