Ruben Laborde Garza, 87, passed away suddenly on Friday May 8, 2015 at his home. Ruben was born April 12, 1928 in San Antonio to Alejandro Justo Garza and Dolores Laborde Garza. He was raised in Leon Guanajuato by his Aunt and Uncle until he returned to San Antonio in 1948. On April 23, 1950 he married the love of his life, the former Mary Esther Delgado and had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a quiet dinner at Ruby Tuesday. Ruben was self -employed and owner of R. Garza & Sons trucking for 50 years and he delivered in his favorite truck "Patsy" sand, gravel and dirt to customers all over South Texas, including, Del Rio, Cotulla, Crystal City, Carrizo Springs, Sabinal and so many more. When he wasn't driving, he was working hard getting the trucks ready to roll, sometimes "ah huevo." He made sure he provided for his wife and sons even self-sacrificing to make sure they all had a Catholic school education. After his retirement from driving, he spent most of his days helping his sons keep their trucks rolling and helping out his family in every way he could. He was a sixty year member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and more recently was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and an adorer at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Ruben is survived by his six sons, Ruben Garza Jr. and his wife Rose Marie, Alejandro and his wife Elma, David and his wife Kathleen, Jaime and his wife Mary Esther, Francisco and his wife Alma Lee and George and his wife Lupe; 16 grandchildren, Ruben III, Jose Javier, Monica, Priscilla, Arthur Ray, Cassandra, David II, Christie, Antoinette, Frank, Elissa, Nicholas, Eddie, Bennie, Genevieve, and Georgie and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Alejandro, Ramiro and Alfredo and his sisters Socorro Quintanilla, Rebecca Cruz, Hortencia Lozano, his niece Melva Morales and his Grandson and namesake, Ruben Garza III in 1995. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ruben Garza III Scholarship at Holy Cross Catholic High School, 426 N. San Felipe Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78228 or Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Family will receive friends on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:30 with a Rosary at 7:30 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church at 223 E. Summit Ave. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 10:00 AM, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 617 South Santa Rosa Ave. Interment immediately to follow at Mission Burial Park North.
