Tributes

Ruben C Hernandez was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 19th, 2025. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family. Ruben, born in San Antonio, Texas was the oldest of 7 children born to Thomas P. Hernandez and Bertha C. Hernandez. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Margaret, beloved son Richard and beloved grandson Luke. Ruben is survived by his children: Vincent Hernandez, Joseph Hernandez (Crystal), Nicholas Hernandez (Amanda), Michael Hernandez, Ruby Bosnick (Brandon) 12 grandchildren Richard, Felicity, Nicholas, Julian, Aubrey, Madelyn, Charli, Chandler, Gabriella, Cecilia, Zoey and Natalie, 2 great grandchildren, Isabella and Scarlett Rose and 4 brothers, Ronald Hernandez, Frank Hernandez, John Michael Hernandez. Alfred Hernandez and 2 sisters, Gloria Suniga and Rosa Linda Soria. Ruben was a proud graduate of Fox Tech H.S., class of 1968, He was in the R.O.T.C. which he enjoyed. The weekend following graduation Ruben was at Boot Camp (Camp Pendleton) getting ready to serve in the Marine Corp. He served his country from 1968-1974, He was a proud Vietnam War Veteran. It was during his time at Camp Pendleton that Ruben met the love of his life, Margaret Lemos. They married. The California girl came to Texas and raised their family here. Ruben and Margaret were married 50 years. In 1977, Ruben joined the San Antonio Police Department. He served on the SWAT Team (1979-1983). Ruben retired in 2008, having served 31 years. Ruben enjoyed going fishing, playing poker, storytelling and joking around and telling jokes. Although he was tough, he always had a great sense of humor, if Ruben was around. you'd be laughing before long. He also enjoyed listening to his oldies but goodies music, BBQing, playing the Lottery Scratch-off games where a lot of times he was winning big. He enjoyed watching the Cowboys and Astros games. Even though Ruben's health was not the best, he would always make it a point to visit his beloved and cherished Margaret's graveside every Sunday. Ruben kept that date till his last days on Earth. Ruben loved his large and extended family, becoming a grandpa really softened his heart and gave him so much joy and fulfillment seeing his legacy grow before his own eyes. He served God, his family his country and his community. Ruben will be dearly missed by all those he touched with his strength and love. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 5pmwith a Rosary at 6 pm. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, February 12th at 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Interment at 1:00 pm at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetary.
