Ortiz Rudy Casarez Ortiz was called by God to be received in his embrace on April 14, 2006 at 62 years of age. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Stella Casarez Ortiz, who will welcome him to heaven. He is survived by his caring wife of 39 years, Margarita Petra Ortiz. He is also survived by his father, George Moya Ortiz, his three children, Michelle Zuniga, Eric Ortiz, and Elizabeth Ortiz; son-in-law, Gilbert Gibby Zuniga, his three grandchildren, Ryan Ortiz, Gabriel Zane Zuniga, Zoe Nicole Zuniga, and his three brothers, Manuel Ortiz, George Ortiz, and Joe Ortiz, and their loving families. Rudy came to San Antonio as a young boy from Beeville. He attended elementary school at Our Lady of Guadalupe and graduated from Holy Cross High School. Rudy served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas in 1970 and a Masters in Social work from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1975. Rudy worked for 30 years with the Alamo Community College District as a Counselor and Associate Professor, where he touched the lives of many students and faculty. He served as President of the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education TACHE and helped found the Cyberspace Poetry Society. In 1977 Rudy served as city councilman for District 6, and mayor pro-term. He then stayed involved with the other community leaders to help his beloved city. Rudys family would like to give special thanks to the many compassionate, caring health care providers and doctors who made Rudys time with them so much better because of their gentle kindness. Services Visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral chapels south. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
