Ruth Lorene "Meme" Shively Canales, age 93 passed away on August 26, 2008. She was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma. She was one of nine children and she lived most of her youth and adult life in Premont, Texas. Meme loved to be surrounded by family. She started an Easter tradition with family and friends celebrating with delicious food and hand painted cascarones at the family ranch in Premont, Texas. Thanksgiving was also a time she shared with many. Meme touched numerous lives. To this day her family and friends will recall her words of wisdom and apply them to their everyday lives. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gustavo Canales and grandsons, Sherwood Scott Inkley and Marc Albino Rafael Canales . She is survived by her sister, Marie Shively Ricks; children, Bebe Nelda Inkley and husband , Sherwood, Mary Virgina Cisi Jary and husband, Lloyd, Gus T. and wife, Patricia: grandchildren, Lloyd "Cy" Jary III, Elisa Jary and husband, Martin Hubbman, Kim Richards and husband , Don, Bettina Mathis and husband, Travis, Elise Reckling and husband , James, Camille Canales and husband, Travis McLeod, Dawn Canales, Pamela Rosser and husband, Virgil, Carla Coon and husband, Kenner, Wendy Arsham and husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Jary, Sarah Long, Jake Long, Elizabeth Richards, Katherine Richards, Tori Johnson, Maria Mathis, Madelline Mathis, Sterling Reckling, Lauren Reckling, Christina Reckling, Elizabeth Reckling, Brock Mc Leod, Kristin Mc Leod, Rachel Rosser, Ruthie Rosser, Meagan Coon , Thomas Coon, Sarita Arsham and Marc Arsham. Her family wishes to thank Heberto Garza, physician and Teresa De la O, Silvia Perez, Angelica Long, Mary Cruz Perez and Veronica Perez. Services Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at San Fernando Cathedral, 115 Main Plaza, San Antonio with the Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 29, 2008 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz, San Antonio. Pallbearers are Jeffery Robinson Arsham, Mark Kenner Coon, Martin Richard Hubbman, Travis Allison Mathis, Lee Travis McLeod, James Sterling Reckling, Sr., Donald Clark Richards III and Virgil Oliver Rosser IV. Honorary pallbearers are Chris H. Hinojosa III, Charles T. Hornsby and Dr. Heberto Garza. Graveside service will begin at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the La Cabra Ranch Cemetery, Premont TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionary Servants of St. Anthony, 100 Peter Baque, San Antonio TX 78209 or the charity of one's choice.
