In Loving Memory of Simona “Mona” Mireles With heavy hearts, we honor the life and legacy of Simona Mireles, affectionately known as “Mona” who passed away on March 30, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the remarkable age of 99, just one month shy of her centennial birthday. Born on May 1, 1925, in Hobson, Texas, Simona grew up in a loving family as the third eldest of 11 siblings, where she naturally took on the role of caretaker for her younger brothers and sisters. Simona was a woman of unwavering faith, strength, and resilience, always striving to create a better life for her family. After spending her early years in Hobson, she moved to San Antonio, where she met the love of her life, Lino Mireles Sr. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, love, and the simple joys of family. She was known for her grace and beauty—her jet-black hair, red lipstick, and red nail polish reflected her timeless elegance. Beyond her striking appearance, Simona possessed a kind and generous spirit, always ready to welcome loved ones with a hot meal, a warm cup of coffee, and a heart full of love. A woman of many talents, Simona was an accomplished seamstress, crafting intricate clothing for her children with skill and creativity, all without a pattern. She took great pride in her home and garden, nurturing her plants with the same care and devotion she showed to her family. Above all, Simona’s greatest joy was her family. She lovingly cared for her grandchildren in their early years, ensuring they were surrounded by warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Her radiant laugh—one that seemed to rise from the depths of her soul—will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lino Mireles Sr., her son, Lino Mireles Jr., and her daughter, Rebecca Mireles Tejeda. She is survived by her cherished children: Arturo Mireles (Sylvia), Diane Fernandez (Tony), Patsy Mireles Moreno, and Roberto Mireles, as well as 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Simona’s presence was the heart of every family gathering, and her absence leaves an unfillable void. However, her love, strength, and legacy will live on in the generations she nurtured. We were truly blessed to have her for as long as we did. Rest in peace, dearest Mother—we love you always.
