Tributes

Sophia Catarina Garcia was born at University Hospital at 12:14 on February 24, 1990. Although she was born in the heart of the city, at heart she was always a country girl. You could spot her a mile away with her trademark cowboy boots and shiny belt buckle. You could easily find her in a crowded room because her permanent smile radiated such strong vibes of happiness and her infectious laughter could brighten the gloomiest of days. Recently she was accepted in to the University of Texas at Austin. Her chosen major was physical therapy, as she wanted to help people in their times of need and give them hope when they had none. She worked hard through out her life and in her senior year had attained the 4th spot in her class ranking. Sophie was part of the varsity girl's basketball team, parliamentarian of the National Honor Society and an active participant in the Life Skills Best Buddy Program. She was a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend who was always full of life. If you needed a helping hand, her hand was yours. If you needed an ear to listen to, her ear was yours. If you needed a shoulder to cry on, her shoulder was yours. But most of all if you needed a friend her love was yours. She was herself all day every day; and at her worst, she was what we should all hope to be at our best. Her love was unconditional and will continue to be, as will ours. She is survived by her parents John and Anna Garcia, her sister and best friend Stephannie, maternal grandparents Juan and Manuela Gonzales, paternal great grandmother Librada Fierros, paternal grandparents Juan and Alicia Garcia, aunts and uncles: Liz and Julian Bell, Joe and Paula Hilario, Ann Marie and Mike Castano, Lucy and Richard Diaz, Simon and Cindy Garcia; her cousins: Alexandria, Arianna, Ricky, Danny, David, Zenia and Natalie. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the Southwest ISD community who so lovingly embraced and helped us mold Sophia into the young lady that she turned out to be. Our gratitude also goes out to the first responders at the accident site, Southwest Fire Department and the Bexar County Sheriffs Department for their kindness and sensitivity during our trying time. We would also like to thank all of the SAISD, especially the staff at JT Brackenridge Academy and to Hologic, their employees and Hologic customers for all of their prayers and support through this very difficult time in our lives. Thanks to everyone who ever touched our daughter's life in a positive way and was a friend to her. This meant the world to our baby girl.
