Sylvia Arreaga Castillo was born on March 21, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas to Rudolfo Arreaga and Irene Rodriguez Arreaga. A lifelong San Antonian, Sylvia aced all her grade-school classes and shined as part of the roping and dance team, the Jefferson High School “Lassos.” Her flowing blonde hair and red-and-blue Lasso uniform caught the eye of a young Adam Castillo, whom she would marry on September 8, 1973. Post-graduation, Sylvia earned her Associate’s Degree from San Antonio College and prided herself on continuing straight A’s through college graduation. While married to Adam, Sylvia worked in several vocations, spanning from the restaurant and retail industries to legal-administrative and university administration. While she truly enjoyed each career path, one of her real joys was being a homemaker, loving her husband of 51 years, and raising their children together. Sylvia joyfully watched the marriages of each of her children, Mark to Jolene, Philip to Wendy, and Andrea to Ken, as well as the birth of each of her grandchildren: Aidan, Ava, Olivia, Zoey, Lillian, Nolan, and Elliott. As a mother, Sylvia went to every single baseball game, soccer game, music recital, band concert, and track meet of her children. As a professional, Sylvia excelled for many years as a legal secretary and an office administrator for the UTSA International Trade Center. As a daughter, Sylvia adored and cared for her beautiful mother, Irene, and wonderful father, Rudy. As a sister, Sylvia cherished her visits with her siblings, Jim, Rick, and Evy. As a wife, Sylvia adored and shared every waking moment with her husband, Adam. In her later years, Sylvia revitalized her passion for cooking and fostered her love of dogs, with three, four, or even five small dogs (always named after luxury cars). In her retirement, Sylvia also enjoyed movies with her grandkids, bunco with her family, and book club with her friends. Sylvia passed away overnight in her home on March 5, 2025. Sylvia’s passion for learning and excelling at all she did will live on in all the countless lives she touched. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00pm at the St. Paul Community Center, 1201 Donaldson, San Antonio, Texas 78228.
