Sylvia Ann Muñiz, born February 8, 1950, entered into eternal rest on January 7, 2021 at the age of 70. Sylvia was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Since a Catholic, faith filled education was of the utmost importance to her parents, Santiago and Celia Martinez, Sylvia attended St. Teresa’s Academy from kindergarten through high school. Sylvia then matriculated at St. Mary’s University in 1968 and earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1972, becoming the first in her family to graduate from college. Sylvia married her husband, Robert Muñiz, on July 19, 1975 at Holy Name Catholic Church. Together they lovingly shared three children: Michael Muñiz, Susan Bartik, and Christopher Muñiz, as well as four grandchildren: Allan Baylor, Jameson Bartik, Catalina Bartik, and Nolan Bartik. A devoted couple, Sylvia and Robert celebrated 45 years of marriage in July of 2020. During her career, Sylvia served the San Antonio community as a bilingual, elementary school educator for nearly 40 years. In retirement, she took much joy in caring for her young grandchildren, journeying on multiple religious pilgrimages, and helping lead a weekly rosary prayer group. Prior to becoming ill, Sylvia’s love of teaching led her to volunteer her time at a local charity helping adult ESL students learn English. Sylvia was the kindest, most loving, and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Sylvia’s unwavering Catholic faith guided her in life and gave her great peace, comfort, and strength until her last day. Sylvia is survived by her husband, sister, children, and grandchildren. Services: On Thursday, January 21, 2021, a rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 1602 Thousand Oaks Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78232. A mass will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. and interment will take place later that day at 1:45 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78209. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made in Sylvia’s honor to Catholic Charities-Archdiocese of San Antonio (202 W.
