Thomas Sylvia Marie nee Luna Thomas was born February 12, 1927 in San Antonio, TX. She was the daughter of the late Blas and Rose Silva Luna. She went to her heavenly home on October 5, 2012 at the age of 85. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. Sylvia graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1945, and was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church since 1982. She was a military Army wife and participated in many activities while her husband served this country. She had great compassion for children that needed assistance and guidance in their youth. She accomplished a great deal in the community without a lot of fanfare or notoriety. She was preceded in death by her parents, Blas and Rose; her brothers Daniel Luna and Blas Luna Jr., and her sister Olga Henry. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lowell V. Thomas, Sr.; sons Lowell V. Thomas Jr., Lane and wife Kathy Thomas, Laird and wife Juanita Aurora Thomas; daughter, Laura V. and husband William Miller; grandsons, Nicholas Rios, Scott and wife Tracy Thomas, Paul and wife Molly Thomas; granddaughter, Andrea Rios; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brayden, Mia and Bowen, all residing in the San Antonio area. She is also survived by her brother Isaac Luna and wife Carol from Florida; sister-in-law Eleanor Luna from Florida; sister-in-law, Carol Blair Thomas from Viburnum, Mo; brother-in-law Rennic Thomas and wife Barbara from Union City, CA; Harry Thomas and wife Frances from Viburnum, MO; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her presence in their lives. Services Visitation will begin on Thursday, October 12, 2012 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Private graveside services will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Rev. Malford Heirholzer, assisted by Associate Pastor Rev. David Cervantes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the Jefferson United Methodist Church Foundation, 758 Donaldson Ave., San Antonio, TX 789201, or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thankk the employees and staff at University Hospital Emergency room, as well as the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at Morningside Manor at 602 Babcock Rd., for their professionalism and care during her final days.
