Tributes

Ted Ellis Johnson was our "dad", our "Pop", and our "Paw Paw". He left us last Sunday, the thirty first of January, 2016, very peacefully. As he died, he was surrounded by many loving family members. Ted's eighty three years here on Earth were spent living life fully. He was born in Ora, Texas, along with two brothers and a sister, to Jewell and Zanthus Johnson. After being raised in East Texas, the family then moved to Kerrville, Texas. As a young adult, Ted joined the service and became a Master Sergeant in the Army as a cook. Moving to San Antonio after serving our country, he began his career in the insurance field. Soon after settling in he met a beautiful girl that he would marry and spend forty of his eighty three years of life with, Janet Johnson. She preceded him in death about fifteen years ago. With Janet, they raised two sons, Ted Ellis Johnson Jr, and Darryl Paul Johnson, and one sweet daughter, Cheryl Ann Wolff. He was that dad that was at every game, or event, the kids were involved in. He was dad, and coach, to all the kids that knew him. He loved playing softball with his team, golfing with his buddies, but most of all he loved watching his kids grow up. Ted worked long hours, as well, to allow Janet to be a stay at home mom. He worked in Life Insurance for Tower Life and USAA for many years, all while moonlighting as an electrician on the side. His great work ethic and love of family were instilled in his children and are very apparent now in their own families. Ted left a deep fingerprint on this world, and in our hearts. As grandchildren entered their lives, Ted became the most adorable loving "Paw Paw" a kid could ever have. He got pretty good at it after having eight of them! He was as involved as much in their lives and activities as he always was with his own kids. He even got to meet two great-grandkids! Ted will be forever missed by those who were lucky enough to have been in his family, those who worked with him, and to those who are still smiling that met him later in his life. He had a cute sense of humor, that only he could get away with at times, that he kept going until he left. Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North on Thursday, February 4, 2016. A chapel service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with interment to follow at Mission Burial Park North.
