Theresa Ann Barrera July 6, 1972 – May 16, 2017 It is with deep sadness we say that on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer, our beloved Theresa left our arms and took God’s hand. Theresa was born to Roberto and Gloria Valdez at the US Army Base in Würzburg, Germany and was raised in San Antonio, TX; she grew to be a beautiful young woman. As an early childhood education teacher at Discovery School and an LVN, she formed lasting friendships in which they shared their good time and sad times – wonderful God-sent friends. Above all else, Theresa felt her most important purpose and the most fulfilling was that as Mommy. From the moment she was diagnosed, she did all that she could to have more time with her children. As her illness progressed, Theresa summoned all her strength and endurance for just one more day to be with her kids – to see them, to feel their hugs and to feel their kisses on her cheek – they were her heart. She did her best for them and now her love will be their guide. Although God’s will and His ways are beyond one’s understanding, we have faith and trust in Him that Theresa is at peace. While our hearts are broken and nothing seems the same, we, her family find consolation that Theresa left us sure in our love for her and her love for us. Now we have a beautiful angel watching over us – never far from us. Theresa is preceded in death by her father, Roberto Valdez; her grandparents, Lino and Estefana Valdez, and Reuben Rodriguez; and her much loved and respected mother-in-law, Maria Barrera. Theresa is survived by her children, Marisa, Tomas and Andres; her mother, Gloria Valdez; her grandmother, Aurora Rodriguez; her sister, Patricia (Jeff) Greenwell; her aunt, Elizabeth Martinez; her nephews, Jacob, Nathan and Garrett Greenwell; her cousin, Katherine (Cres) Castillo and their children; Robert Barrera and his family and other family members that include aunts, cousins and an uncle. The family would like to extend their gratitude for their care and attention to Theresa, to Dr. Kalter and The Start Foundation, Dr. Benjamin and M.D. Anderson and Vitas Hospice. Services: A Rosary will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Road, San Antonio TX 78213 Following the Rosary, A Celebration of Theresa’s Life at St. Gregory the Great Parish Hall.
